Twitter Ban in Nigeria - Reason and Effect

Hi Steemians, we have yet again another interesting story from Nigeria. This time involving the Nigerian Government and Twitter.

As a Nigerian I believe I'm in a position to rate the Nigerian Federal Government of today as one of the most insensitive and disappointing Governments in the world. 90 percent of the challenges making life difficult for Nigeria citizens today are directly coming from the Nigerian FG with virtually no solution to those problems.

Few days ago, there was a rather surprising tweet from the Twitter account of the Nigerian President which actually looked like an open threat to the Eastern Region of the county.

And mind you, the Eastern Region of Nigeria is the same region that want to be an independent state and declared secession in 1967. Biafra (Eastern Region) was engaged in a genocidal war by a combination of Nigerian government and her allies including Britain for three years (1967-1970) simply for deciding to be independent like it was a crime and that war recorded the worst of atrocities and war crime known to Africa with an assumed recored of over 3.5 - 6million Biafran civilians massacred.

And yet after the war the people of the Eastern Region have continued to live like outcasts in Nigeria although all the resources (Oil) on which Nigeria is dependent comes from their Region. Also there have been regular riots against them especially in Northern Nigeria which usually claim lives of properties of Easterners.

So receiving such a tweet from the supposed president of Nigeria is considered as an open threat of another genocide against Easterners that are still groaning for justice for all they're going through in the forceful United Nigeria and can't be condoned by any platform that loves humanity.

The tweet was removed by Twitter for reasons related to human rights. And guess what.....

Nigeria Federal Government has not only banned twitter but has also issued threat of arrest for anyone using twitter in Nigeria. And funny enough this news was also announced on twitter by Nigeria FG.

If this is how fast the Nigerian government respond to more important issues that matters it would have been better than banning Twitter at your own expense.

It's really disappointing
