SEC-S30W1: Anecdotes that teach: Selfishness brings its own dangers

Ashsalamu Alaikum

A merchant lived in a village. He had two deer. One deer was named Lionel and the other was named Thomas. The merchant liked Lionel more. He did not let him do any work. He did all the work through Thomas. The merchant used to transport goods from one region to another region after a few days. He used Thomas to transport the goods.

One day, the merchant prepared to go to a region with 5 cloth sacks. He would take his two deer with him. Since the merchant liked Lionel more. So the merchant put all the sacks on Thomas's back. That day was very hot. Thomas could not carry the sacks in the middle of the heat. Because the sun was very strong. The sacks were very heavy on him. Thomas was having a hard time carrying the sacks. He was very tired. Leon was walking beside him. Since Thomas was having a hard time, he asked Lionel to carry half of the sacks for him. Because Lionel had no sacks on his back. He was walking like that. If Lionel carried 50% of the sacks, then both of them would have felt a little relieved. But Lionel did not agree to take 50% of the sacks. He said, I cannot carry the sacks. I have never done these things. You carry your sacks yourself. Thomas started walking again carrying the weight of the sacks. But after going a little far, Thomas could not bear the weight of the sacks and lay down on the ground. His heart started beating rapidly. And after some time, Thomas died.

Thomas died. This put the merchant in danger. Now he has to carry these bags to that area. For this, he put all the bags on the back of his favorite deer Lionel. And he also skinned Thomas's body and put the meat on Lionel's back.

Now Lionel's condition has become very bad. He has never worked in his life. And today he has to carry so many bags in this scorching heat. Then Lionel started crying and thinking, did I not make a big mistake? If I had helped Thomas in the beginning. Then I would not have to do such a difficult job alone.

Moral Lessons:- Lionel then realized that selfishness would one day bring harm to himself. If Thomas had helped him a little at the right time, he would not have had to get into big trouble. Then if Lionel had helped Thomas a little, he might have been saved from such a big trouble.
