Al Jamiatul Islamia Darul Uloom Barura Madrasa is a religious educational institution. The madrasa was built by the Darul Uloom Deoband institution in 1909. The educational institution is known by several names in the area. Many people know it as a Qawmi Madrasa. Many people know it as Barura Darul Uloom Madrasa for short. Many people know it as the Barura Old Madrasa. The main name of the madrasa is Al Jamiatul Islamia Darul Uloom Barura Madrasa. The madrasa is known as the largest Qawmi madrasa in the Comilla district. Currently, there are about 3,500 students in the institution. There are 135 teachers and employees. The madrasa is located in Barura Upazila of Comilla district. You can see the madrasa when you reach Barura Upazila in Comilla district, about ninety kilometres from the capital, Dhaka. Three meals are arranged for the students in the madrasa every day. Most of the students of the madrasa are residential. The madrasa is located in my hometown.

Al Jamiatul Islamia Darul Uloom Barura Madrasa has departments of Religious Education, Arabic Language and Literature, Quran and Hadith, and Fiqh. Parents have seating arrangements at the main gate of the Madrasa. The Madrasa has four five-story buildings. In each building, students of different departments of the Madrasa practice their knowledge. There is a religious library inside the Madrasa. A room is allocated for each teacher. There is a large field for the students of the Madrasa to play games.

The madrasa is run at its own expense. There is no government funding. The development work of the madrasa is carried out with the donations of the people of the Comilla district. Food is prepared for the students every day with the money donated by the people. Flowers and trees have been planted in front of various departments of the madrasa to enhance its beauty.

Darul Hadith Department

The public is not allowed to enter the madrasa complex. Parents have to wait for their children in front of the main gate. Students have to lead a disciplined life. There is a training facility for teachers on the fifth floor of the madrasa. There is also a unit for practising Islamic knowledge. Al Jamiatul Islamia Darul Uloom Barura Madrasa is one of the leading institutions in Comilla for practising Islamic knowledge.
