The Troxler Optical Illusion
Inattentional Blindness.
I would love to start with the new vocabulary here, the new word or phrase is inattentional blindness. This means failure to see something simply because you were too focused on another thing. You were not paying attention, that is the inattentional part of it and because you were not paying attention to it, you did not see it, practically being blind to it even when it was right in front of your eyes, your brain on its own decided to ignore it.
This is a phenomenon that happens to us every day without even realising it. Let's take your nose for an example. Your nose has always been right there between your eyes but you often don't see it. You don't see your nose because your attention is fixed on other things, so your brain takes away the nose and you end up not seeing it.
Now that we are talking about your nose, there is an increased possibility that you are seeing it.
Now, let's go back to the only graphic we have in this post. It is made up of a rotating grid of red crosses, at the centre is a blinking blue-green dot. Positioned at equidistance from the blinking dot at the centre are 3 yellow dots that form a triangle.
While the red grid rotates behind them, the 3 yellow dots are stationary.
Conditions that activate the illusion
For the illusion to get activated, you will have to focus on the dot at the centre. Once your attention is fixated enough on the dot at the centre. The 3 stationary yellow dots, because you are not paying attention to them, will appear to vanish or disappear.
They may vanish one at a time, or all three dots may disappear depending on how strong your focus is.
Conclusion
Phonominons like this make me question those who still assume that seeing is believing. Such optical illusions make me question the reality and authenticity of the things I see because the eyes sometimes fill in the blank spaces with things that do not exist and my even remove some items simply because they were not the object of your attention.
