SEC-S30W2: Legends of my country: The Jinn of the Abandoned House
Today, I want to share a traditional supernatural legend from my country. This legend is about Jinn. In Islam, the existence of Jinn is considered real. According to the Qur’an and Hadith, Jinn are a creation made from smokeless fire.
Like humans, they are Allah’s creation, and among them, there are both good and bad beings. Normally, humans cannot see them, but sometimes people can feel their presence through strange or unusual events.
In Bangladesh, as well as in many other Muslim societies, people often share experiences and stories about Jinn. Below is a fictional story inspired by the supernatural character.
In a village, there was an old abandoned house that had been empty for many years. Villagers said that strange sounds could be heard there after sunset. Some even claimed that lights could sometimes be seen inside the house at night, although no one lived there.
One day, a young man from the village decided to go near the house out of curiosity. He thought people were probably afraid for no reason. So, one evening, he went with his friend to explore the house.
The house was surrounded by large trees, and the area felt very quiet and lonely. When they entered, they noticed an unusual silence inside. For a while, everything seemed normal. But suddenly, they heard a soft sound from inside a room, as if someone was walking slowly.
At first, they thought it might be an animal or the wind. But a few moments later, the sound came again, this time from another room, like someone was touching a door.
Both of them grew nervous. Then suddenly, one of the doors inside the house began to move on its own. There was almost no wind, yet the door was clearly moving, as if pushed by an invisible force.
They could not stay any longer. They quickly ran out and returned to the village.
Later, they shared the story with some villagers. The elders said that similar stories about the house had been told for many years. No one could say for sure what really happened, but the villagers believed that a Jinn might live there.
Even today, the house remains empty. After sunset, people usually avoid going near it.
In conclusion, Jinn are not visible like humans. According to Islamic belief, they generally cannot be seen by human eyes. They exist in the world alongside us, but their physical form is hidden.
Jinn can see humans, but humans cannot see them. They prefer lonely or abandoned places. Sometimes, people hear strange sounds, see shadows, or experience unusual events at night, which are attributed to Jinn.
Some Jinn may try to scare people or even affect them, because, like humans, there are both good and bad Jinn. That is why elders often advise not to wander in deserted places at night. Jinn are a fascinating and mysterious supernatural legend of our culture.
I am inviting @mahadisalim, @lirvic & @rumon.akanda to take part in the contest.

I really enjoyed reading your story, one such incident happened to my elder brother and it was very scary. We were all very scared to hear, then I was thinking that I had heard so much fear and whoever it happened to. Thinking about how he spent that time, how it feels in his heart. I really like your writing, whether it's a joke or a true story. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story with us.

I've heard and read a bit about the genies, and I've even heard of cases where their presence and influence is mentioned on this side of the planet. Very good story.
