How industrial metrology is born
The most important question:
- "Why do we need metrology?"
In this post I will describe my experience in this case.
Let's start from the very beginning.
Metrology - the science of measurements, methods and means of support
their unity and ways to achieve the required accuracy.
In practical life, a person is faced with the dimensions of each
day. Since time immemorial, such quantities as length, time and
weight. Measurements are of paramount importance for trading, accounting
material resources, planning, to ensure quality
products, technology improvement, medicine. Metrology plays an important role in the progress of technology and must
develop at a pace that outstrips other areas of science and technology, so
how for each of them accurate measurements are one of the main
ways to improve. The subject of metrology is the extraction
quantitative information about the properties of objects with a given accuracy and
reliability. A metrology tool is a set of measurements
and metrological standards that provide the required accuracy.
Why do we need this metrology?
The answer is very simple, once I asked this question to my good friend and he answered me briefly but very informatively: - "Imagine a situation that you need to measure the distance using a ruler or tape measure.
You can do this, but where is the guarantee that your measuring instrument shows the truth?"
So, for this, this science exists, it helps us to make sure that the testimony is correct.
The problem is that this science has ceased to be treated as something necessary.
I ran into this problem in the Russian Federation.
Unfortunately "for money" you can buy a calibration or verification certificate.
This is a big problem at the moment, which obliged the execution of verification and calibration procedures in an orderly manner.
This is a trend not only in the Russian Federation, but also in other countries.
My opinion is that it is necessary to make this procedure arbitrary, or rather, that the customer himself determines what he needs.
Verification or calibration of measuring instruments.
After all, many, as I wrote earlier, do this because there are obligations.
