in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Greetings to my fellow steemians, I wish to thanks @fombae and @ngoenyi who were there to verify my achievement 1 and 2 here comes achievement 3 which is on content etiquette and plagiarism

What is CONTENT ETIQUETTE

It is a code of polite behaviour in a society or amongst members of a particular profession or group.

What is PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism can occur in many different contexts. While often associated with school assignments, it can also happen in professional settings, such as the arts, academic, etc

In real term plagiarism means copying words or images directly, paraphrasing sentences or passages, or co-opting someone else’s ideas without citing the original work.
Or when sources are fabricated. Making up information like study findings or statistics is extremely misleading and can even be harmful in the case of medical contestants.

Here we will talk on the different forms or types of plagiarisms that so mamy people practice knowingly and unknowingly

TYPES OF PLAGIARISMS

A) MOSAIC OR PATCHWORK PLAGIARISM
It is when you copy the work of someone else without citing the source. That is trying to change up the sentence structure or using synonyms to make it look original. It’s often difficult to detect because the plagiarized material is interwoven with many different sources, including the writer’s own ideas and perspective.

B) PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
Paraphrasing, or incremental plagiarism, this type is the most common type of plagiarism. It’s similar to the mosaic plagiarism style mentioned above. However, the only difference is that the copied work isn’t mixed in with new concepts and research. When you paraphrase the original idea in your own words, the borrowed material stays the same throughout the new piece.

C)COMPLETE PLAGIARIS
This is more common in academic writing than in content marketing or other types of online writing. This type of plagiarism occurs when someone tries to submit an entire research paper as their own without proper attribution.
For example, this involves copying and pasting the original work in its exact words.

D) SELF-PLAGIARISM

It is also known as auto-plagiarism, it involves copying your own writing, whether intentional or not. So
many people think self-plagiarism is harmless because you aren’t stealing from someone else. Just yourself. But, this type of plagiarism can be just as damaging as any other.
For example, if you are writing web pages and you are caught plagiarizing, you could end up getting penalized by Google for duplicate content.

E) ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
Plagiarsm can happen accidentally, meaning plagiarism doesn’t always happen on purpose. It’s still considered plagiarism when someone copies another’s writing without citing their source, improperly cites the source or leaves out quotation marks on accident. Just because the omission or incorrect citation was accidental doesn’t mean plagiarism hasn’t been committed.

F) SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism refers to instances when misleading sources are involved. For example, the writer may have two sources of information but only reference one. Another form of source-based plagiarism would be when an author quotes a non-existent or incorrect source.

G) DIRECT OR VERBATIM PLAGIARISM
With direct plagiarism, also known as verbatim or copy-paste plagiarism, is an intentional and unethical form of stealing content. As the name suggests, the writing is stolen word for word and pasted into the new piece. The author then tries to pass off the content as their own. A word or two might be changed, but this type of plagiarism is too blatant to be considered paraphrasing.

EFFECTS OR CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM

If you use someone else’s words or ideas without properly crediting them, you could be committing plagiarism. The exact consequences or effect of plagiarism depend on your institution’s rules and the type of plagiarism, but common consequences include:

-Grade penalties
-Course failures
-Disciplinary action
-Suspension or expulsion from your university

Apart from the immediate consequences, being caught plagiarizing can have long-term effects on your academic or professional record and jeopardize your future career. Plagiarism in published work can also have serious legal and financial consequence's.

PREVENTING PLAGIARISMS

How to prevent and avoid plagiarism.

1: Understand Plagiarism. Plagiarism is when you use another person's words or ideas and try to pass them off as your own. ...
2: Properly Quote and Paraphrase. ...
3: Properly Cite Sources. ...
4: Check Your Work for Possible Plagiarism. ...
5: Practice

        CONCLUSION

I will go further to say that pagiarism is not a good practice, let us cease our selves from the act. If you must plagiarized, please properly quote and cite the source. In order to support the author with some credit, because plagiarism can destroy your reputation.
