Achievement 2 @iamsmkr Task : Basic Security on Steem

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Here are my answers to the questions from the blog post on Basic Security on Steem by @cryptokannon.

Q. Have you retrieve all your keys on steemit?

I have download and saved the pdf that mentions all the keys (public/private) pertaining to my steemit account @iamsmkr.

Q. Do you know each of these key functions and restrictions?

As per the retrieved document, the usage of each key is described as below:

Private Posting Key

Used to log in to apps such as Steemit.com and perform social actions such as posting, commenting, and voting.

Private Memo Key

Used to decrypt private transfer memos.

Private Active Key

Used for monetary and wallet related actions, such as transferring tokens or powering STEEM up and down.

Private Owner Key

This key is used to reset all your other keys. It is recommended to keep it offline at all times. If your account is compromised, use this key to recover it within 30 days at https://steemitwallet.com.

Master Password

The seed password used to generate this document. Do not share this key.

Public Keys

Public keys are associated with usernames and are used to encrypt and verify messages. Your public keys are not required for login. You can view these anytime at: https://steemscan.com/account/iamsmkr

Q. How do you plan to keep your master password?

I use http://keybase.io/ to save all my valuable data. I am infact considering to write a post in the Newcomer's community on how we could we use http://keybase.io/ to save our credentials and other personal/public data.

Q. Do you know how to transfer your steem token to another steem user account?

Every wallet pertaining to an account has "TRANSFER" option in the drop-down against "STEEM" and "STEEM DOLLARS" sections which allows us to transfer money to other people by their account name. For example, if I were to send money to Neeraj Kumar, I would need to use his account name, @neerajkr03.

Q. Do you know how to power up your STEEM?

I have infact powered up my steemit account for the first time yesterday from whatever payouts I received till yesterday. I also understand why would one want to power up their STEEM. It is basically a non-liquid assest in the form of influence tokens which give you more control over post payouts and allow you to earn on curation rewards. It is more of an investment on this platform. The larger share of investment you have on this platform, the more influence you are going to have in the steemit communities.

Nice explanation of all keys and it’s usage.

Yes, you can write a how to post on keybase.io. It will be helpful for many users to understand this app and could use to store secure information.

Nicely written, looking forward to your next achievement post.
