"Achievement 4 by @malinga Task : Applying Markdowns"
HELLO MY DEAR FRIENDS, ,😊😊
Today I am sharing with this community about Horton Plains, one of the most beautiful fascinating natural tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.
HORTON PLAINS
Geomorphology
This is the highest plain in Sri Lanka. It covers an area of 3160 hectares at an altitude of 1800-2300 m above sea level in the Nuwara Eliya District of the Central Province.
The grasslands on the expanse of the plain enhance its charm.
When it comes to climate, the average temperature is 15 degrees Celsius and the rainfall is 5000 mm.
Environmental value
The fog that envelops the entire environment and the occasional rain have managed to preserve the climate as well as the beauty wonderful of the environment.
Horton plains is also the source of the Mahaweli, Kalu and Walawe rivers which supply water to the whole country. Therefore, Horton Plains is considered as a valuable water body. It is said that the tributaries of Belihuloya, Uma Oya and the Bogawanthalawa river also originate in Horton Plains.
More than 100 species of plants have been found here and more than 50 are endemic to Sri Lanka.
"Maharath Mal" is a beautiful plant found all over the Horton Plains.
Lichens, which beautify plants, are also common in the Horton Plains, as are rare species of orchids. In addition, ecologists say that our country has many medicinal plants.
Endemic animals
It is a common sight to see herds of deer roaming in large numbers. In addition to this, animals such as meerkats and sand deer can also be seen in abundance.
In addition, about 30 species of mammals have been identified in the Horton Plains.
It is acknowledged that there are about 17 species of birds and 35 species of butterflies endemic to Sri Lanka.
The horned lizard and the great monkey are also endemic to the area.
Formerly known as mahaeliya and now known as Horton Plains, this beautiful plain has become a haven for biodiversity and unique climatic conditions.
Save the environment
There are times when this beautiful land is in danger due to the negligence of human beings. Safeguards are in place to protect it, and we must create our own rules and regulations to protect our environment in a humane and environmentally friendly manner, so that these valuables can be passed on to future generations.
If you are visiting Sri Lanka one day, Horton Plains is a beautiful place not to be missed.
Thank you...😊😊
