I like the positive way in which certain people relate to the natural elements that surround them (plants and animals), it seems to me that this speaks very well of the sensitivity and the certain level of cultural development achieved by these people, cultivating a garden besides being a noble activity, it is very therapeutic.

Something about Orchids is that their flowers are especially striking, due to their large size and their particular shape, which does not let it go unnoticed in the eyes of those who find it in a garden or who has the joy of crossing wild it in such a way.

Despite having more than a thousand species of orchids registered in Venezuela, this was the favorite to be named National Flower. It was scientifically classified as Cattleya mossiae, it undoubtedly has a wide presence in the culture and the imagination that refers to this tropical country. It symbolizes femininity and beauty and cannot be missing in the most special floral decorations, including some uses in ritual contexts.

It blooms approximately twice a year, and it is a true spectacle that adorns everything around it. The special shape that it acquires when it flourishes facilitates the politicization process in which insects such as bees play a determining role for this ecosystem.

These photos I took some time ago in my mother's garden, a proud cultivator of orchids and other ornamental and medicinal plants. I took them with my old Sony DSC-H7 camera, already in disuse, which despite being a compact one had a good integrated lens for macro shooting that I miss a lot. These photos do not have a post-production process to preserve the naturalness of the record.

Me gusta la manera positiva con la cual se relacionan ciertas personas con los elementos naturales que los rodean (plantas y animales), me parece que eso habla muy bien de la sensibilidad y del cierto nivel de desarrollo cultural alcanzado por esas personas. Cultivar un jardín, además de ser una noble actividad, es muy terapéutico.

En mi familia hay grandes amantes de las plantas, pero sin duda los que son poseedores de orquídeas siempre se hacen destacar al mostrar un especial orgullo por las flores de esta notable planta.

Algo que pasa con las orquídeas es que sus flores son especialmente llamativas por su gran tamaño y su forma particular, que no la deja pasar desapercibida a los ojos de quien la encuentra en un jardín o que tiene la dicha de cruzarse con ella en un contexto silvestre.

A pesar de haber más de mil especies de orquídeas registradas en Venezuela, esta fue la predilecta para ser nombrada Flor Nacional. Fue clasificada científicamente como Cattleya mossiae, indudablemente tiene una amplia presencia en la cultura y el imaginario que hace referencia a este país tropical. Simboliza la feminidad y la belleza y no puede faltar en los adornos florales más especiales, incluyendo algunos usos en contextos rituales.

Florea aproximadamente dos veces al año, y es un verdadero espectáculo que engalana todo a su alrededor. La especial forma que adquiere al florecer, facilita el proceso de polinización en el que insectos como las abejas juegan un papel determinante para ese ecosistema.

Estas fotos las realicé hace un tiempo en el jardín de mi madre, orgullosa cultivadora de orquídeas y otras plantas ornamentales y medicinales. Las tomé con mi vieja cámara Sony DSC-H7, ya en desuso, la cual a pesar de ser una compacta tenía un buen lente integrado para hacer fotografias macro que extraño mucho. Estas fotos no tienen proceso de postproducción para conservar la naturalidad del registro.
