Greetings friends and welcome to my blog. Today I am glad to be a part of this challenge, Our Surroundings A Series of Real Life Experiences ; Brickfields & Fuel Stations. Join me as we explore.

What type of service location did you visit? Briefly describe it.

Today I have visited a fuel station close to my place. I see this fuel station all the time whenever I am going out as it’s in an open and a strategic place. Something that cannot be missed. I had gone there a couple of times to buy gas for cooking. There’s a section that sells cooking gas and there’s a section for selling fuel.

Before this challenge, I haven’t had to time to actually sit and observe what goes on in it and how they run their affairs but because of this Challenge, I’ve been able to do that.

So this is a fuel station that helps to sell fuel to commuters who come in to buy fuel to help their transportation business. They also sell fuel to individuals in gallons and tricycles and buses.

They also sell cooking gas to people who come to buy cooking gas. I have bought a lot of times from them.

Operational history & Location (Steem Atlas pin)

This fuel station is Ralosyi Oil and gas limited. Situated at 1 Ilaju street Bariga, Lagos state. It’ a private oil and gas station that has been operational for over a decade. It had about three other stations across the state but it’s not a well known brand.

It had served the people of Bariga for over ten years and people still patronise them due to they have been there for long but alot of things are not working in the station like it used to. It used to have a service lube bay that helps sells engine oil and different types of vehicle oil and they also help to do alignment for vehicles and minor car maintenance.

It also had a mini supermart that is like a stop over to buy shop when people come to buy fuel but all of that is no longer working. They have really dwindled on their services over time.

They used to have more patronage in the past but now it’s mostly tricycle drivers, bus drivers and individuals that patronise them and also because there is a bus park close to it. You rarely see private cars drive in to get fuel from there.

Type of work & Workers’ lifestyle

Honestly, I must say that I have not been impressed with their manner of work and even their worker’s lifestyle. I used to buy gas from the station for cooking but over time, I noticed their gas does not last and they reduced their meter. So 1 kg of gas doesn’t read up to 1kg and when I complained over time they would always say that it was set in a way to reflect actual measurement but the meter is saying a different thing.

The gas doesn’t last as it finishes quickly so I had to stop buying gas from them and I have also heard other people complain about their services. These has also made some persons to stop patronizing them. They prefer to go somewhere else.

Their workers lifestyle is tedious. For some time now, I have been seeing only two workers there. One for the cooking gas and the other one as a pump attendant. The pump attendant is a lady. She’s the only one attending to people and as you can see in the video, it’s only one of the pumps that are functional.

The lady works all through the day from 8am to about 8pm when they close. Sometimes you will see her sitting on a chair close to the pumps obviously tired from being the only one working. They really have a lot to improve in their services. They do not have much patronage and you can even see some of the bus drivers resting on the chairs close to the other pump.

Gas stations we all know are very useful to us as they help make gasoline, fuel and diesel readily available to us so that commuters can be able to operate easily. It is the only fuel station in this axis and located strategically hence people have no choice than to still patronize them despite their bad services.

Gas station are know to cause air pollution because of the gas escape from their operations. You can literally see the fuel fumes escaping and causing air pollution as they try to sell to people and also the cooking gas selling section. We even inhale them as we stand around to buy.

It makes the environment a little rowdy from the numerous people, vehicles and tricycles who are coming in at one point or the other to buy gas or fuel.

File stations has its benefits and hazards but they have come to be a part of our community and lifestyle. We enjoy their services while putting in place ways to reduce environmental pollution and hazards.
