It's true, they seem very easy to create, but I still haven't fooled around with communities too much yet. I don't know why, but for me, tags alone work fine, and I am able to find everything I need with them. The way things worked before hive communities was just fine with me. Simply type in the tag you are interested in seeing posts for, and like magic relevant posts are displayed. Anything off-topic or spamming of tags can be downvoted and/or blacklisted if the activity continues. I guess I see very little difference between regular tags and hive tags. That's just my two cents, but I want to keep Steem as simple as possible so we can increase onboarding.
Maybe getting rid of tags altogether and replacing them with hive communities would be better. You could then post in 10 up to different communities, but will have to keep a sheet of paper handy with all the codes that correspond to whatever community. This is a step backwards in my opinion, and random numbers representing tags/communities is like memorizing all your friends' phone numbers in the 1980s.
