Oh wow, that's a lot of coats! I'd have maybe two for winter, so one can be washed while the other worn. Then maybe small jackets for the warmer months. In England it was pretty much winter all year round, but South Australia basically has two temperatures. Hot and cold.
I never before thought that it's a lot of coats, I just thought that it's practical. One is for really cold weather, I mean -15° to -20°C and below. And the other winter coats, which one I use is more related to what I'm doing or where I'm going. Everyday or sporty.
The spring / fall jackets I have, have more color choices according to mood, but again weather is the biggest influence because in case of photographing, I like to have my hands free, so I very rarely use an umbrella. I rather wear a raincoat or a gore-tex jacket that keeps me dry and even cold wind isn't a problem.
But then again if I lived in Australia, I probably would only have perhaps two coats / jackets because it would be too hot wear a jacket, even in the colder months.
I wonder how many jackets other Finns admit they have? Let's see if I can lure @eveuncovered, @celestal or @tarazkp here to count their jackets / coats. :)
Ah, my favourite topic; clothing. And I happen to be a huge coat/jacket fan, love them so much.
I did a calculation in my head and I own 14 jackets, and my collection is not nearly as full as I would like it to be! You need leather jacket(s), obviously, a wind and rain proof jacket, a trench coat, a proper arctic parka and wool coats too. And of course one would want multiples in different colours and details, and other sub-categories of them all.
:D Yes. This pretty much sums it up. Thank goodness for second hand shops where I've found most of my: "I can manage with my old jackets but because this is so funky or different color than my existing ones, I must have this and oh, it's pretty cheap too!" -jackets.
Lately I've tried to have a bit more minimalism approach in owning stuff. But it's so darn hard when it comes to good jackets findings from flea markets!
Even in England I think the most jackets I ever had was two, maybe three. Except for that time my grandmother kept buying me them from the charity shops and they were to small for me. I was in desperate need of a new coat and could barely squeeze any of them over my jumpers. I think only one actually fit me at that point and I hated it having to go in the wash.
Once you get used to South Australia, a winter jacket is still a must. Even 4°C feels icy, because the climates is so dry here. Having said that, some Aussies are so conditioned to aircon they wear shorts all year round.
4°C is icy. We have that here now (or something around 0°C) and although I think that's not a proper winter degree, it's cold because that's what I've gotten used to.
Shorts!? All year round?! No fun in that because of the lack of different outfit options! :D
