And that made the trip worthwhile!
I thought if there was any chance of getting more carp during the spawn it might be a warm and rainless day like yesterday, but I was wrong. The cold water and temps had done their damage, and they were nowhere to be found. However, right where we pulled up, a large shadow was seen about thirty feet off. I thought it was a large carp, but as it turns out it was a large female gar with a smaller male. They began to move, and I began to try to maintain a parallel path. When I thought it was "now or never" I took the shot, and my arrow hit true! It'll be gar-bites again for sure.
