Funny that you should mention an outdoor pond my friend, as we are also discussing a water feature here. But I will have to find a water tank to catch the rain water to supply the fountain.
Will see what I can do about it!

Stick with a pond small enough to clean, we had fish and attracted a choir of frogs each year.
When the large pond had to be dismantled and fish found new homes we put in a smaller water feature on the opposite site of the house for the birds to swim in now.
Still takes a pump to push water up 1M rock feature type pond which birds do enjoy taking a shower under, oh monkeys come to drink from it too....
