Talent Is Only The Beginning

There's a popular saying by Irvin Berlin, a songwriter, "The toughest thing about success is that you've got to keep on been a success. Talent is only the starting point in business. You've got to keep working that talent." And that's the simple truth about long lasting success.

Lots of people get complacent when they arrive at the top, but within a short while; they learn that if they don't keep on working their talent, they could easily fall from the top. It's not a journey with a specific destination. Success is a continuous process.

The moment a person decides to stop working his talent, he starts to decline - it may be gradual but surely. Because whatever that isn't sharpened, with time starts to get blunt. And the same is true for talent. Too many people rely simply on their talent alone.

But the truth is that your talent will only get your foot into success - because talent is only the beginning. What keeps your foot in, is work and continuous efforts to improve yourself and ensure that each day you're better than you were yesterday.

Talent alone has probably never taken anyone so far, it only gives people the opening - because talent is simply the beginning. You need to constantly sharpen your talent, so that it doesn't go cold. You need to constantly reinvent yourself, so that you can stay at the top.
