Aren't all securities also an assets? Correct me if I'm wrong. ETH may not be a security but even if it would be considered a security, then ETH still would be an asset.

So my question is: are securities never an asset?

    Very valid question but I think security is a different treatment where SEC make things difficult but if its not a security then things are much easier.
    But to answer this question I agree with your point that security is also an asset anyway but SEC is the problem in US
