What is Social Engineering?

According to Wikipedia,

Social engineering is the psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. This differs from social engineering within the social sciences, which does not concern the divulging of confidential information.

Have you watched the "catch me if you can" movie? do you recall the job of Abagnale in the film? you can find out who is a social engineer resembles? this film dependent on a genuine social engineer in our set of experiences,

71yo Frank Abagnale is a transformed swindler and creator of "Scam Me If You Can." He was broadly depicted by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film "Catch Me If You Can. His intention was bad. but he was manipulating people around him amazingly.

But after reading Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking by Christopher Hadnagy, I realized that the role of the social engineer is different more than social engineering. He can utilize engineering strategies to control individuals whether the subject is good or bad.

Social Engineering attacks come in a wide range of structures and can be performed in any place where human communication is included. In the movie above, he(main role) is only using techniques to manipulate people physically. But in modern society, this is the greatest threat to everyone. because in every structure such as a company, humans are the vulnerable part more than security. When the security systems are well protected from threat, attackers will try to reach their goals by using a person in the company. this will be a little way but that can damage the entire company.

Social engineering is a control procedure that adventures human blunder to acquire private data, access, or assets. In cybercrime, these "human hacking" tricks will in general bait clueless clients into uncovering information, spreading malware diseases, or offering admittance to restricted systems. There are many types of these attackssome of them are

  • Phishing
  • Baiting
  • Pretexting

Anybody can prevent these things if they know about them. Without knowing the dark art of "Social Engineering" no one is safe anywhere anyone can fool you and gain control of your all digital life if they talented enough.

Social Engineering In Daily Life (Employee Theft)

Is social engineering only a bad art like in the movie? no, it's not. people are the subject about to change. for example, Anybody can get opportunities using this. get attention, create a trust

The brain is the most vulnerable thing in the human body. anybody can change someone's mind in a second. that's the key for a social engineer. In cybersecurity, this is a totally different case from what I'm writing here. but same techniques. there are true vulnerabilities as humans.

  • Stress and Pressure
  • Fear
  • Trust
  • Curiosity

Are some of them, In the dark art of social engineering. Anyone can use human vulnerabilities for their purpose. but actually in a good way? there are thousands of psychological techniques to use to build trust, get attention, and kind of stuff. That can drive the situation in a good way sometimes. Imagine that you need to get the attention of someone so you can use techniques

In the end, I just need to tell you social engineering is not only a bad art 100%. learn how to use it by reading famous books written by real social engineers in the world. Actually, this might be an interesting side to learn. give it a try. I bet it will help you one day
