And that's why you have to take courses and studies in the line of business that you've decided to take. Most people don't value self improvement - and they fail to see that self improvement is what prepares you for bigger positions.
You need to learn more, read more, and study more than everyone else, because this positions your talent. You need to practice for longer hours than everyone else, because this increases the edge that you have over your competition.
