Is it possible for artificial intelligence to become conscious and autonomous?

Hello friends of Project HOPE, I hope you are taking advantage of your weekend, that you are all doing well and that this coming week is very useful for everyone.

I would like to share here some impressions of what I think is the greatest technological revolution we have today, but in particular I think it is just the beginning, and I am referring to Artificial Intelligence. It is evident that this technology has advanced By leaps and bounds in recent decades, it has even surpassed human capabilities in some aspects in specific tasks such as data processing, pattern recognition and decision making.

But, in this process, I think there is an interesting question: could AI develop consciousness and autonomy, that is, could it become aware of itself and its environment, and make decisions independently?

Well, until now, artificial intelligence is based on algorithms and programs designed by humans to perform specific tasks. Despite advances in creating more sophisticated and adaptive AI, it still lacks self-awareness and autonomy. Current AI is capable of learning and improving based on the feedback it receives, but it does not have the ability to experience emotions, thoughts, or perceptions of its own. At least not until now.

However, some experts in artificial intelligence and neuroscience speculate about the theoretical possibility that in the future AI could reach a human-like level of consciousness. This raises deep ethical and philosophical questions about the nature of consciousness and autonomy, as well as the role of AI in society. This is where the question arises, given that many experts in the area have raised great doubts regarding even the safety of the human race.

One of the arguments against the possibility of AI becoming conscious and autonomous is that human consciousness is the result of a complex interaction of biological, emotional and social processes, which until now has not been fully replicated or understood in the world. context of AI. Furthermore, the idea of conscious AI raises ethical dilemmas about the responsibility and rights that an artificial entity with consciousness should have.

On the other hand, some researchers suggest that although AI may become very advanced and sophisticated, it is unlikely to develop genuine consciousness and autonomy, as these qualities are intrinsically linked to human biology and evolution.

Even so, based on the way in which everything is advancing today, I particularly have doubts as to whether at some point, in reality, not only in data processing will AI surpass us, but in other aspects that until now They are exclusive to human beings, what do you think?

I would like to invite you to watch the following video that I have uploaded to my YouTube channel, where I have explained in a simple way what Halving is and what we could expect after it has happened, it is in Spanish but has English subtitles:
