Cybersecurity approaches to apply on blockchain

in Project HOPElast year

Security remains a big concern for projects built on the blockchain, and with security breaches on the rise, security issues will always be a topic for discussion. Whether the project is centralized or decentralized, they often share the same security weakness that hackers always exploit.

As someone who has seen the damage these hackers could cause, I know it is always a scenario everyone should strive to avoid. However, some cybersecurity approaches to information might not apply to blockchain; the goal remains the same: ensuring confidentiality, availability and integrity.

ways in which one keeps information and funds safe on the blockchain are:

Never save your keys or passphrase your mail inbox. The reason is simple; hackers are always in the habit of going after emails as they know that most people are lazy to seek an alternative approach to saving and securing their sensitive information. Mails are the go-to target of almost every hacker in the world, and with knowledge, one would expect that people will discontinue storing sensitive information on it, but the reverse is the case.

To mitigate this, it is better to save your passphrase in an encrypted cold wallet provided by Tezoz or, better still, write down your keys or passphrase phrase on paper. You could also print the key from a word document; this way, your cryptos are safe even if hackers access your emails. You can also ensure the safety of your mail by using a 2MFA or restricting your email accounts from being opened from unknown accounts.

The second option is to discontinue connecting your wallets to unsafe sites or projects. some projects are trojan horses whose aim is to ensure that you connect your wallet to their offer, and in doing so, they gain access to your wallet. So it is critical not to connect your wallet to all sites asking for them. always ensure that these sites are safe and also try to know which security measures these sites use. This way, you will not allow any connections to your wallet, and your cryptos will be safer.

Lastly, share lesser personal information online. People often act gullible, and in a bid to gain attention, we tend to overshare, and by oversharing, hackers will have more information that could use against us in the long run. We share our pet's names, locations and almost sensitive information that we might not count or see as sensitive, and the hackers use it against us.

For example, you travel out, and your house is left unguarded. It is great to travel and see the world, but sharing pictures and videos is unwise when you are still on the trip. This is because hackers could break into your apartment and steal your books where sensitive information like passphrases and keys might have been written. Also, oversharing allows hackers to track your movement and know exactly where to hit. The critical line is to stop oversharing.

You shared important tips here @lebey1, and if they are taken into consideration, it will be hard for your funds to be compromised.

This to me is one of the easiest way your funds could be lost. It is very important to avoid connecting your wallet to any site you encounter

Thanks for sharing buddy
