Now a team of engineers from the University of New South Wales in Australia have developed a prototype implant for the retina of the eye that uses solar panels to generate electricity that will be sent to the brain in the form of electrical impulses through the optic nerve to be able to generate images and improve vision.

Ahora un equipo de ingenieros de la Universidad de Nueva Gales del Sur, en Australia han desarrollado un prototipo de implante para la retina del ojo que utiliza paneles solares para generar electricidad que será enviada al cerebro en forma de impulsos eléctricos a través del nervio óptico para poder generar las imágenes y mejorar la visión.

The best thing about this device is that it does not try to replace any organ but rather serves as a link between the affected organs and the neurons in charge of processing these impulses to restore their function, helping those people who suffer from degenerative diseases that affect the photoreceptor cells of the retina.

Lo mejor de este dispositivo es que no intenta sustituir ningún órgano sino que sirve de enlace entre los órganos afectados y las neuronas encargadas de procesar esos impulsos para restaurar su función, ayudando a aquellas personas que padecen enfermedades degenerativas que afectan a las células fotorreceptoras de la retina.
