How to recognize a Gifted Child

In the world today, we have so many gifted children around us.
Most of them are lacking behind because of the inability of parents, teachers and their guardance to identify these gifts in them.

Today we are going to learn the four main methods that can be used to spot out the gifted child in the school

THROUGH OBSERVATION

A sensitive teacher in the classroom can be watching his/her students to identify the gifted one. If the teacher wants to be systematic in his observation, or watching, he/she identified the characteristics of a gifted child and check out these characteristics on each child's character in school. The more these characteristics are shown on a regular basis, the more certain one can become to label the child as gifted. Parents should closely observe their children to know area of their interest.

THE SECOND METHOD IS THROUGH THE STUDY OF CHILDREN'S PERFORMANCES IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

In this method, the teacher may have to see all child's reports cards in all subjects. That's, check he/she scores in tests, class works, homework and examination, also the response of the child to studies. This will help the teacher in identifying a gifted child. Another area the teacher needs to note is the child performance in sports and games. When these records are studied, one is able to identify who a gifted child is.

THE NEXT METHOD IS PEER RATING OF THE CHILD

Here, the teacher either verbally or in written form asks other children to score the ability of the other child. From such exercise, one may pick the child whom the majority of class members rate high. The same method can be extended to other teachers in the school.

FINALLY

One can use some specially designed tests that try to identify the gifted child. Some of these tests are called intelligence and aptitude tests. Their use can help in identifying the gifted child.
