Do Not Be Held Back By People's Opinions

No matter what anyone says or thinks about you, it does not determine your future. As a matter of fact, your reality is very different from someone's opinion. The place you are going to and your dream are clearer to you than anyone else, so you do not need to be distracted by what others think or say. They are entitled to form any opinion they want, but if you become mindful of that, you may lose the sight of where you are going to. If you are driving for example, and you keep looking at everyone that passes, you may stand the risk of crashing. In the same way, if you mind every opinion, you will become distracted from what you want to achieve.

That someone said something about you does not change your reality, neither should it determine your future. You will be surprised that some of the opinions are not from a pure intention but from a place of envy and jealousy, or they may just be scared of what you want to become. But even if it is from a pure intention, it still does not mean that you cannot amount to something greater in life. I remember a particular documentary I once read about the inventors of the airplane, known as the Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur). Before the discovery, some of the very renowned scientists opined that it will be impossible for a flying machine that has more weight than the surrounding air to be created.

The words may have come out as what people call facts, since they were made by scientists, but it still did not dampen the mind of the Wright Brothers to pursue after their dreams. They kept to their vision without minding what anyone says or not. They never allowed those words to form their reality, rather they kept their focus on what they wanted to achieve. They put in the required actions and adorably, they finally invented a machine that can fly and it set a precedence for the aviation industry even up till now. Imagine if they had allowed the words to discourage them, they would have lost out of their dreams.

Someone may have assumed a couple of things about you, but your reality should not be dependent on it. If you are going somewhere and you allow someone to convince you to stop where is not your destination, you will become stranded. In this part of the world, family members choose careers for their little ones without even observing the strength and weaknesses of the kid, thereby affecting them negatively. But if you allow them to grow and make their choice, they will be better fitted for it. More so, they will be better equipped for the challenges ahead.

Someone that does not already know where you are going to will not know your plans to get to it. What you want to achieve is your absolute prerogative and should be without recourse to what anyone thinks or not. I remember a story I once read about when Mark Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook (Meta) was in school, one of his teachers then told him that he will not make it in life because of how his academic performance was. These words would have discouraged someone or dampen their emotions to pursue after their dreams but it did not do that to him. Rather it motivated him to pursue after his dreams the more. He finally launched his app and even the school and his teachers now has a page in it.

When Ben Carson, who is recognized as one of the worlds renowned Paediatric Neurosurgeon, was in primary school, he was below par in academics. In fact, teachers and friends thought that he will never make it, but he did not allow their opinions to form his reality. He did not mind what people said about him, rather he concentrated on his studies. With the help of his mom who believed in his dreams, he was able to take his academics up to par and came out with flying colours. He went on to become a world renowned medical doctor. This goes to prove that no matter what people say about you, what counts is what you think about yourself.
