Greetings my friends! This is Week 48 of the Photos Of Feathered Friends Contest hosted by @strawberrry. If you still don't know about this yet, read the conrest post here. Read up and hopefully you can join us soon.

I have mentioned in my past posts about my daughter who is living and working in Germany. As a foreigner in that country, she grabs all the opportunities she can to travel within Germany and other European countries. In one of her trips within Germany she visited a place called Hunsrück.

The Hunsrück region enjoys a unique setting, enclosed by the rivers Moselle, Nahe, Saar and Rhine. It is popular with travellers and is one of the most beautiful low mountain ranges in Germany. The natural landscape of the region comprises forests, meadows and river valleys. Google Search

While there she went to a wildlife park and took numerous pictures of the different animals there. One of them is this peculiar looking breed of chicken.

I checked the internet to find out what breed this is. It is called the Sulmtaler Chicken.

The Sulmtaler is an Austrian breed of domestic chicken. It originates in the Sulmtal, the valley of the Sulm river, in southern Styria, in the south-east of Austria, and takes its name from that valley.. History. Like the Altsteirer, the Sulmtaler derives from the country chickens raised in Styria, particularly in the Kainachtal, the Lassnitztal, the Sulmtal and the Saggautal. Wikipedia

I also found out that it is a very hardy breed, easily fattened and has very good meat quality which makes it one of the favorites of European chefs for cooking chicken viands.
