Iver Bright - Asphalt/Bitumen Tanker - Shipspotting
This morning, Iver Bright made her way from Sarnia, Ontario, to Detroit, Michigan. She's such a pretty ship, but is technically a salty (an overseas ship), so I decided to make this a ship study instead of just a photo gallery.
Here she is coming through Marine City, Michigan, this morning.
The Sarnia Journal reported about a year ago that the Iver Bright was the perfect solution for a difficult problem - running a ship during the frozen winter of the Great Lakes. The Iver Bright has the right icebreaking capabilities that make it easier for her to handle all the ice we've been watching on the shipping cameras this winter. The coast guard stands by to ensure she doesn't get into trouble, but by and large, she can handle most of what winter can throw at her.
After Marine City, Iver Bright made it through Algonac, Michigan, now accompanied by US Coast Guard Cutter Morro Bay (106), but it sounds like she rarely needs assistance with the ice.
Iver Bright is a small ship, only 111 m (about 364 feet) in length and was only built in 2012. She is owned/operated by Iver Ships of the Netherlands, but is being leased by Suncor Energy of Sarnia, Ontario. There are more pictures of this tanker at Shipspotting.com.

Before the shipping season slowed down for the winter, I was able to observe some of her larger fleet mates using the port in New Hampshire - also the same bright red livery. Always beautiful. The company even has a Facebook page.
