SC-S29/W1- Nostalgia Of The Little Me : Games we used to play (Whot Game)
Some of the best memories that a person can have are the childhood memories. Whenever I reminisce about my childhood days in life I recall one of my moments when life was not that complicated and joy was readily accessible.
There was no such thing as smartphones, social media, or online games to spend our time. Rather, we made fun out of basic things. Games that we played together were one of those things. Whot game takes a very special place in my heart as compared to all the other games that I liked as a child.
But what was more than a game was who. It was something to be together, laugh, fight, and forget about our problems, at least temporarily. This has been the time that made my childhood what I enjoy today.
The Childhood Game – Whot
Whot is a well known playing card game of which most of us grew up playing. The cards are of various shapes and number and there are also special cards which can shift the course of the game within few seconds. I was taught to play Whot by older children that surrounded me and initially, it seemed to be a complex game.
However, having seen some rounds I soon found myself in love with it. I loved to match cards, wait until my turn came and hope that my card would fit. No two games were ever alike and each round was different.
Where and With Whom I Used to Play.
We usually played Whot in the evenings and mostly after school and the household chores. We used to sit on the floor of the living room, at times we sat on the benches outside the house and at other times we sat under a tree when the weather was cool.
I was interacting with my siblings, cousins, neighbors and close friends. Everyone always wanted to participate whenever a pack of Whot cards was brought out. Those who said that they could not play would also forget the rules only to recall when the game commenced.
The togetherness was what made these moments to be special. No distraction, no phone call, no haste anywhere. All were there and attentive to the game.
Why Whot Game Was Special to Me
Whot was special to me in that it helped unite people in a manner that few things did. Age did not matter. Regardless of whether you were younger or older, after spread out the cards, there was an equal opportunity.
The suspense of the game was also great to me. One minute you might be winning and the next moment you might be losing. The special cards brought about surprise and excitement as one was on their toes. When one person shouted Whot! the atmosphere shifted immediately and all people responded in different ways.
A Funny and Memorable Moment
There was a time I will never forget when I was playing a game which I was confident to win. I was left with just one card and in the process I had already visualized that the game was over. I even smiled with a feeling that we were guaranteed a win.
Then one of the players dropped a special card and I had to select a few cards on the stack. This excitement soon changed into laughter and everybody made fun of me. This one event gave me a lesson that I still recollect today, always do not rejoice prematurely.
Life Lessons I Learned from Playing Whot
Whot was also my many-to-be-many-lessons-teacher whom I have never even thought about back then. I also learned how to wait, as at times you had to wait a long time to have your turn. I also learnt how to control myself, particularly when things were not going my way.
I also learnt sportsmanship in the game. The loss was not pleasant but I learnt to take it with grace. It was a good feeling to win, but I learnt not to laugh at others. Whot also assisted in enhancing my thinking ability since I had to think about my moves.
Above all the game helped me to learn about togetherness and mutual happiness.
Conclusion
In the current perspective, Whot game was not only a child game; it was one of my growing years. It brought me laughter, friendship, lessons and memories that will be unforgettable. I have a strong nostalgia whenever I look at Whot cards even today.
Those basic times make me remember that it is not necessarily expensive things that make one happy. Every now and then all you need is a deck of cards, people you love, and time to enjoy spending time together.
