One childhood experience I will never forget happened when I was about ten years old. It may look like a small thing to others, but to me, it shaped and taught me how to take responsibility and be honest or sincere even today.
But everything changed the day I truly understood how to read properly and learn for myself.
How old were you, and what exactly happened in that moment? |
|---|
At age ten (10), I lived with my family in a quiet village where children played anyhow or freely without fear of anything happening. So one afternoon, my mother sent me on an errand to go to a nearby shop to buy bread, and she gave me some money. On my way going back home, I saw my friends playing. I decided to join them, just for a few minutes. In the excitement of running around, I misplaced the money. When it was time to go home, I was so scared and confused. I searched everywhere but could not find the money.
When I finally got home without the bread and money, my heart was beating so fast. I was so scared and confused, and I started crying. I tried to explain what happened to my mother, but out of fear everything I said that day makes it look like a lie. My mother was disappointed in how careless I was, not because of the money, but because I did not return immediately when I noticed the money was missing. Instead of my mother shouting, she calmly and gently told me how trust is built through responsibility and honesty.
What emotions did you feel during and after the incident? |
|---|
At that moment, I felt so much regret and shame that I couldn't even let myself look at my mother twice. I felt so afraid of losing my mother’s trust. After that moment or incident, I felt so sad but also happy, relieved, and free that my mother chose to teach me rather than punishing me badly. That gentle and calm conversation with my mother stayed with me longer than if I had been punished that day.
The lesson I learned from that experience was simple but powerful: responsibility means doing or finishing what you are sent to do before distractions, and honesty means speaking up fast or on time when something goes wrong. I realized that mistakes can happen, but how you handle them matters more than the mistake itself.
How has this lesson influenced your life until today? |
|---|
The lesson I learned has improved my life and prepares me for any obstacle or circumstance today. Even up till now I try to be responsible in everything I do, whether it is schoolwork, personal relationships, or commitments I make to others. When I make mistakes, I don’t hide it. I have learned to admit it early and look for solutions instead of excuses. That childhood moment taught me that trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild, but honesty can protect it.
It taught me discipline, self-control, and the importance of making wise choices.
What lesson or realization did you learn from this experience? |
|---|
Even though I was just a child, the experience has shaped me to be a better person and taught me how to be careful and how to be honest with everything or with anything I do in life.
