When I do think back to my school days, truth be told it always touch my heart. School life it's not something which a person can forget easily. Because its inside those moments I will have to laugh, cry, make mistakes, learn lessons, and meet people which surely shape me into who I am today. Some memories were sweet to me, some was painful, but all of them join together to make me strong and a better person today.

A Moment That Defines My School Life

The front view of my school compound

However One day which I will never forget was my first day in secondary school. I still remember how I wear my new uniform, the shirt white like fresh paper, the trouser was so so big. My parents sew the big trouser back then for me so that I'll wear it for a longer period of time for it to still size me. My sandals was shining because I polish it so well. My dad drove me to the school gate, but once he left, fear begins to catch me. Truth be told I can still remember how Everywhere was very strange to me, all the faces of the students and teachers were new to me , because I didn't know anybody there and I haven't gone there before.

However that particular day, one of the senior student came to me and shouted at me just because I didn't know where to stand during the assembly, because I climbed the staircase which is only made for senior students to stand. Though he didn't beat me but i almost cry, but later the one teacher came to me, pat my shoulder, and say, “Don’t worry, you will get used to it.” That small encouragement gave me courage. From that particular day, I just tell myself that school will be my second home no matter what, and that I must learn how to survive inside the school.

How I Felt as a Student

The first picture I took before resuming my secondary school journey

As a student, my feelings were really mix. Sometimes I was very happy when I understand lesson or when the teacher praise me in the class. Other times I was really full of fear, especially when our exam session was really near or when I didn't do my all my homework as expected from the teacher because of one or two obstacles at home.

Honestly I won't forget that day how my heart was beating very fast than normal when our teacher after explaining the lesson for up to an hour calls me out to answer the questions on the board and explain it my classmate in the class. But even though I knew the answers to this question I was still afraid and shyto speak out with boldness.

But school wasn't only about books. It's was really a place which I learn how to relate with other people too. No doubt I really struggle with shyness at first, but slowly I begin to associate with others and talk more, laugh with classmates, and join studying groups at the library.

The only things that Makes me to cheer up with excitement was the joy of playing football during break, the joy of singing in class, and even the joy of reading different story books and textbooks in the library. All of these were part of my school life.

A Friend or Teacher Who Mattered to Me

One person which really matters to me was my friend Precious. He was the kind of person which always smile, even when things hard. He was the one who had the ball we do play in break time, this really makes me go close to him. Anytime I feel sad or I fail test, he will tell me, “Dont worry, next time will be much better.” He share his notes with me, and sometimes we will sit together to read. We are still best even up till now. I'm happy I still save the above picture which I took with him on our inter house sport competition day.

My English teacher Mr Paul

Another person that shape me was my English teacher, Mr. Paul. He don't smile too much, but he is serious about discipline. One time I submit essay which I copied from another student, he catch me and flog the hell out of me. He shape me to who I am today . And sometimes Instead of him just punishing me, he will sit me down and explain why honesty is important. He tell me that “If I cheat today, that I'll also cheat tomorrow, and one day life will catch me.” That words entered my heart, and from that day I begin to value honesty.

A Mistake or Lesson From School Life

One big mistake I made was when I skip the class to play football. That day, I think that nobody will notice, but unfortunately my teacher catch us. All of us that went to play the ball stand under the sun for one hour as a punishment to us. At first I was really angry with the teacher, deep down but later I realize that discipline is very important. That experience teach me responsibility. Truly I have really learn that every action a person takes has its own consequence, and if I don't respect the rules given, I'll surely suffer now or later.

Another lesson is patience. Sometimes exam results don't come quickly, and we will have to wait for weeks. That waiting period teach me how to calm down and trust process. School life show me that success doesn't rush, you must work hard and wait for your time.

Reflection: How School Days Shaped Who I Am Now
1000174960.jpg
Precious my best friend and I now.

Looking back, I see how those school days build me. The fear I face teach me to have courage. The joy of friendship show me the value of support. The discipline from teachers give me respect for honesty and responsibility. The mistakes I make teach me patience and confidence.

So in my today's life, I really carry those values and moments with me. Because Honesty really do guide me in everything I do in everyday lifestyle. Also Responsibility do remind me to finish what I have started and not to stop halfway. Patience too always help me when life is slow. And the courage I gain from facing fear do push me to chase my dreams and not to give up.

However School life wasn't 100 percent perfect, but it's the foundation which shape my personality. So I can surely say that without those experiences and moments, I don't think I'll be who I am today full of what to learn from.

My final Thoughts

So in all My school life is a story of laughters I had, tears, mistakes, and growth too. And I remember the first day of my fear, the joy of friendship, and the discipline from teachers, and the lessons from my mistakes. All of them join together to make me much stronger.

As I write this, I feel proud because those days are still inside my heart. They remind me that life is journey, and every step — whether sweet or bitter — can prepare us for tomorrow. Truly, its those small lessons do build big character.

Good job on your story telling... Happy the lessons shaped you positively

Greetings,

Thank you so much for participating in the contest.

First like to say that you have answered all the contest questions very well. You have beautifully expressed your emotions, fears, joys, mistakes, and lessons through real-life experiences, which is truly commendable.

Your description of the first day in secondary school, especially the fresh white uniform like a new sheet of paper, reflects the innocence of a young student. The small encouragement from a teacher worked as a great source of motivation for a schoolboy, even though facing the seniors’ scolding was not easy to handle at that moment.

Your writing clearly shows how fear, shyness, exam pressure, and challenges gradually helped you build confidence over time. School life is truly an ideal place to learn the value of friendship and discipline, and you have portrayed this very well.

From your life reflection, it is clear that you learned important lessons from your mistakes during school life. You have shown how those mistakes later transformed into honesty, responsibility, patience, and courage, which are shaping your character today.
