Comic Style Guidelines for Newcomers - Achievement #2 by [Cryptogecko - #Club100]

in SAGE Academy3 years ago

Hello Steem Family,

The following is a story of a girl who has discovered Steemit online, registered her account, and has also successfully completed her first achievement task. It was only after she saw the downloaded document, containing all the keys for her account, that she became confused. It will be interesting to see how she proceeds since she does not know what to do.

As soon as the girl registered an account on the Steem blockchain, a document was downloaded to her computer.

When the girl reviewed the document, she discovered that it contained a number of keys as well as a master password. Her only problem was that she was unable to understand why she needed so many keys when she already had a password.

She had previously received assistance from a Steemit user in registering her account and completing her achievement 1 task, so she decided to seek assistance from him again.

Expert: "Each of Steem's private keys is structured in a hierarchical manner, which enables its holder to carry out a broader range of activities on the account associated with that key."

Girl: "In the downloaded document, I find several keys as well as one master password. Why is there one password and other are keys?"

Initially, it can be confusing to understand why the Master Password is not also called a "key." The reason is that all keys are derived from this one password. It is for this reason that it is referred to as the "Master" password. Passwords are sometimes referred to as seeds since they are generated first and all other keys are derived from them. This allows it to be used for a wide variety of activities on Steem, from social interactions to financial transactions. While it is convenient, some individuals have used this password for everything, which is exactly the opposite of what it was designed for.

As Steem applications such as Steemit.com use keys for all activities, it is crucial to store the Master Password securely in a password manager, or offline at all times. By doing so, the risk of a malicious actor gaining access to this information is minimized. The important thing to keep in mind is that if you use your private keys appropriately, you are unlikely to need to use the Master Password. It is therefore worthwhile to sacrifice a small amount of convenience in exchange for the benefit of security.

Due to its limited capabilities, the "Posting Key" is at the bottom of the hierarchy. Users can use it only to participate in social activities such as posting, commenting, upvoting and downvoting. It is therefore impossible for you to lose money if someone else gains access to the key.

As a result of additional permissions granted to this key, it is capable of performing more sensitive monetary-related operations, such as transferring and exchanging tokens.

When performing wallet-related operations, you may be required to authenticate with your Active key. It is not recommended to enter your Active Key into apps that you do not trust, since anyone with access to your Active Key may be able to steal your tokens. Keeping this key in a safe place will help ensure that tokens are not lost in the future.

It is necessary to have the owner key in order to change the other keys. A number of additional permissions are available with this key, including the ability to recover your account or to modify your other keys. Considering this key to be the most important, it should be backed up in a secure offline manner.

Memo Key.png

Due to its unique nature, the Memo key is an exception. Only private messages sent through the blockchain can be encrypted and decrypted using the Memo Key. Despite the fact that one day this may prove to be a powerful feature, it is not widely used at the present time. It is always recommended to use a key that has the minimum amount of authority possible, which, in this case, would be the Memo Key, if you have received a private message you wish to decrypt.

While it can be unpleasant for an account holder to lose control of their account when a hacker comes into possession of their Posting Key, they can always recover control if they still have their Master Password (or Owner Key).

Now that she was aware of all the functionality of the keys in the document, the girl was delighted. It was also apparent to her that it was very important to save the master password and other private keys in a secure location.

Having acquired this important knowledge, she returned home to begin working on her second achievement. Although she was not required to complete all of the achievement tasks from the beginning, she wanted to solidify her knowledge by completing them all.
