JASPHER SERIES

in Writers4 years ago (edited)

"Jaspher, are you done brushing now? Your school bus would soon be here".
"No-u-u-uu", comes a tiny voice obviously struggling with toothpaste and brush in her mouth.
In a bit, a 5years old, black girl of 2ft, having a mop of afro strolls into the kitchen. Interrupting the kitchen business she says, " mummy, I'm done! Please bath me now", as she wears her pleading signatory look.
Cleaning her hands on the napkin, Mrs Nimi replies, " oya let's go", stretching her hands. Jaspher interlocks her petite hand with her mum's, while dragging her feet down the hall.
The water is set loose as the tap runs. Mum scoops water into the sponge and pours the soap into it; then the SCRUBBING begins.
"Uuuh...", Jaspher whines as her lashes go on seconds break. Tinting her eyes as though needing a concave lens, mom asks, "Jaspher dear, what's wrong with you?"
"Nothing mummy" and mum scrubbs again. This time around, the "uuuh..." comes more fiercely.
"Mummy, mummy stop please"
She moves Jaspher's shoulder backward like a rat in search of cheese, as the droplets flow from her eyes.
With the glassy drops enroute to her chin, Jaspher speaks out saying, " Uncle Jerry...".
"Yes? What happen to Uncle Jerry?"
Jaspher closes her mouth with her hands and fiercely shakes her head; refusing to go down memory lane.
"Ayanfe mi, please talk to mummy. Mummy is here for you", as mum's hands and head follows the rhythm from an unseen orchestra.
"Mummy", she looks pleadingly into her eyes, It was Uncle Jerry who touched me here", while moving her hands to where it hurts.
As though a light comes on in mum's mind, her eyes bulge like a saucer, "which Uncle Jerry?" My brother? Ehn?"
The nod from little Jaspher answers the questions. Mum's face takes different dimensions of contours letting go of all the torment inside of her.
"Oro ooo, Jerry has killed me. Aaah!", she scearms as she grapped her daughter, falling to her knees. The fountain is finally let loose,as stormy current flows and her teeth grits in pain.
"I'm so sorry dear, I should have listened to you the other day".

Please let’s learn to listen to these little bones. Overtime they have built confidence in you that’s why they can talk to you, but if you do not give them the chance, if you’ll always shove them away they will never come back to say anything and that could be dangerous.A lot of times they have things to say about happenings , about things going on around them , but because we have seen them as too small or unwise , you take most of these things for granted.

One of the strains of this Covid-19 lockdown syndrome, is that the queue of children being closed down have increased, tremendously. When companies and working activities were in progress, there were children who were "starved" and right now, the changes is that the numbers have gone up.
A lot of persons say that they are bored, guardians inclusive. Have you wondered if these little ones around you too can be bored and possibly, are bored too?
In any home, there is always something -no matter how little it is- that we can engage in -the children inclusive- that can spice up the home. Check within!!
Aside activities, how about having that conversation about sex -sex education? In place of one big/major talk off, you can have small, frequent and repetitive little ones. If you don't educate them now, both the physical and online community would do "utmost justice" to them. Do not forget, there is an age to age guide on sex education; no time is late or too early to begin.
Guess what? Now is also an opportunity for you to teach them the art of prayer. One man once said, "families that pray together, stick much closer than a normal family would". Indeed it has been tried and it works wonders.
The call to become intentional about your wards is as a Clarion call right now, and whatever choice you make is actually an answer. Choose wisely.
