Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!
Shukr شُكْر means gratitude that shows in the heart, on the tongue, and through action. In the Qur’an, gratitude isn’t just manners—it’s a system Allah set up to increase what you have.
1. What the Qur’an Says About Shukr
Allah makes gratitude a condition for increase:
"And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"
Surah Ibrahim 14:7
Notice the link: gratitude → increase. Ingratitude → loss.
Allah also commands it directly:
"So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me."
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152
2. Types of Shukr in the Qur’an
Gratitude has 3 levels, all mentioned in the Qur’an:
A. Shukr of the Heart
Recognizing that every blessing comes from Allah alone.
"And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allah."
Surah An-Nahl 16:53
B. Shukr of the Tongue
Saying Alhamdulillah, speaking about Allah’s favors, not complaining.
"And as for the favor of your Lord, report it."
Surah Ad-Duha 93:11
C. Shukr of the Limbs
Using blessings in obedience to Allah, not disobedience.
"Work, O family of David, in gratitude."
Surah Saba 34:13
If you use your health to sin, your eyes to look at haram, your wealth to oppress—you haven’t thanked Allah for it.
3. Why Shukr is Rare but Valuable
Gratitude is rare because people forget where blessings come from:
"And few of My servants are grateful."
Surah Saba 34:13
Shaytan even said his goal is to make us ungrateful:
"Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them... and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."
Surah Al-A’raf 7:17
That’s why gratitude is a sign of true iman (faith).

4. What Happens When You’re Grateful
More Blessings
Already mentioned: 14:7. Gratitude unlocks increase in rizq, health, peace, knowledge.
Protection from Punishment
"What would Allah do with your punishment if you are grateful and believe?"
Surah An-Nisa 4:147
Being Called ‘Grateful’ by Allah as in the example of Prophet Nuh (A.S) was called:
"Indeed, he was a grateful servant."
Surah Al-Isra 17:3
Prophet Sulayman (A.S )in the Surah of the ant said:
"This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful." as he heard the speak of the ant.
Surah An-Naml 27:40
5. How to Practice Shukr Daily
1. Start with Awareness
List 3 blessings you took for granted today: your eyesight, water, ability to breathe. None of them are guaranteed.
2. Say Alhamdulillah Constantly
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Alhamdulillah fills the scale in the day if judgment." Say it after eating, waking up, finishing a task.
3. Use your Blessings for Good
Got any knowledge? Teach it. Got any wealth? Give sadaqah(charity). Got any time? Use it for Qur’an and family.
4. Stop Comparing Upward; look into yourself.
"And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them."
Surah Taha 20:131
Comparison kills gratitude.
5. Make the Du’a of Shukr
"My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents."
Surah An-Naml 27:19
6. The Opposite: Kufr of the Blessing
Kufr كُفْر means to cover or hide a blessing. It’s not just disbelief in Allah—it’s acting like the blessing came from you, someone/something or using it against Allah.
"Have you not seen those who changed the favor of Allah into disbelief?"
Surah Ibrahim 14:28
Pharaoh had wealth and power, but he said “I am your lord most high”. That’s kufr of the blessing.

| Du’a for gratitude | 27:19 |
Bottom Line
Shukr turns what you have into barakah(contentment). Ungratefulness turns it into a trial.
Start today: Before you sleep, say Alhamdulillah for 3 specific things that happened today. Do it for 7 days and notice how your mindset shif
