How can we find peace within ourselves and stay mentally well in a world full of chaos, as advised in the Qur'an?
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!
Response
To achieve inner peace, we must ground our hearts in the remembrance of the Divine, acknowledge the limits of human control, and strike a balance between material success and spiritual fulfillment.
Steps to Follow
Remembering God (Dhikr):
The Qur'an teaches us that peace comes from constantly being aware of God, shifting our focus from external stressors to an unchanging internal reality.- From the Qur'an: "Those who have believed and their hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured." (Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28).
Accepting Fate (Qadar):
Mental well-being involves letting go of the "what ifs." Knowing that what is meant for us won't miss us, and what we miss was never meant for us, can reduce chronic anxiety.- From the Qur'an: "No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being..." (Surah Al-Hadid 57:22).
Finding Balance:
Instead of striving for perfection, focus on your efforts rather than obsessing over perfect outcomes.Self-Reflection (Muhasabah):
Take time to evaluate your intentions and actions, pinpointing the source of inner conflict to adjust your path before stress builds up.- From the Qur'an: "O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow..." (Surah Al-Hashr 59:18)."
