"Pick a Word, Paint a Story #02"
Shanice sat on the lonely path winding through the park as tears streamed down her face. If only she could get a glimmer of peace around her then she would just be grateful. All she wanted to do was be a good roommate and a big sister to her roommate Lucy.
She just moved into a new town away from home on a work transfer and she didn’t have enough funds to get herself a befitting apartment in the city. She had to do with a make shift accommodation which involves living in a hostel and sharing the room with someone else for that’s all her money can afford.
She was paired with a roommate Lucy. Shanice was excited and was looking for the best experience as this would be her first time of having to share her space with a total stranger. She was a woman of soft heart and very caring and would go out of her way to make others very comfortable.
She was a lovely soul and is easily loved by people because of her sweet personality. With so much enthusiasm and love she tried reaching out to her new roommate but she was in for a rude shock. As she sat reminiscing on all that had transpired between her and her roommate, her mind drifted into a painful memory of the previous weeks and months events.
Lucy was a disturbed soul which didn’t know she needed help. She was rudely antagonistic annd aggressive and would seek for every opportunity to make life unbearable for Shanice who on the other hand was very easy going.
Lucy would snap at Shanice at every given opportunity and wouldn’t even as much as let her have a free expression in the room. She would always find faults in all she does and would even proceed to call her names and make nasty comments about Shanice.
One day they had an escalation When they couldn’t agree on a particular thing, Shanice had to call the attention of the property management to settle their scores and Lucy rudely walked out on the management matron and was shouting on top of her voice which attracted other residents in the apartments.
She was a thorn in Shanices flesh. Thoughts of returning to the house after work was scary to Shanice and sometimes she would stay out late just to make sure Lucy had slept before she returns home. She was walking on egg shells and didn’t have a moment of peace as long as she was around Lucy.
This kept happening for months as Shanice prayed for an escape route. The rent to get an apartment of her own was quite expensive as she didn’t have the resources for it at the moment. While she sat alone she ruminated on the importance of peace. Peace is indeed expensive she signed. Then came the last straw that almost broke the Carmel’s back but posterity was watching.
Lucy accused Shanice of stealing irrelevant items she claimed belonged to her but she was actually innocent. She reported the incident to the management but the management was already tired of Lucy’s behavior and was looking for a way to give her a quit notice. So on this faithful month, she wasn’t able to afford her rents hence they sent her packing from the hostel.
Shanice was pained for how she had to leave but it was a breath of fresh air. When Lucy left, she prayed silently for a better roommate as she has seen how having peace is very important. She suffered PTSD for a while because of all she passed through in Lucy’s hands even though she treated her like a sister but Lucy only paid her back badly.
The new roommate came and Shanice skeptically welcomed her into the space while wondering what next drama was going to unfold. But her new roommate was a breath of fresh air and an opposite of Lucy. She gave her all the peace she required. She was very grateful for answered prayers as she enjoyed the peace she hasn’t enjoyed in months.
Indeed Peace is expensive she would always say. Having peace of mind is a great thing that we should all be thankful about.
Thank you for reading through my story. This is actually a true experience of the author. If you are in a family, relationships, work environment etc that gives you peace, value it for peace is a rare commodity that we all deserve.
I ask @beewrite, @lewaswrites and @amjadallio1 to join the contest.

Peace is extremely vital; so, sustaining peace in our families, societies, and workplaces is crucial. Lack of peace caused us to develop a mental health disorder characterized by anxiety and stress.
Thank you for participating in the contest.
