A responsible day amidst festivals – Infection Control Week in Hospital
Hello #steemit team,
This is @alfazmalek from #India,,
Yesterday felt a little different. I opened my eyes in the morning before the alarm rang. A light cool wind was blowing outside and light was spreading in the sky. Sat near the window for some time and started the day in the aroma of tea. The festive season is going on, there is excitement everywhere, but in my mind I was only thinking about the work of the hospital and Infection Control Week. Had breakfast and quickly got ready and left for the hospital. Decorations were visible outside many houses on the way, some people were busy shopping. It came to mind that how good it feels when a festival brings everyone together, but for us duty is the biggest festival.
When I reached the hospital, the atmosphere was a little different. A small rangoli decorated with lamps and flowers was made at the gate itself. Some nurses were laughing and talking near the reception. There were festive smiles on everyone's faces. But at the same time Infection Control Week was also going on so along with the decorations, there was an atmosphere of alertness. In the morning meeting I reminded everyone that the risk of infection is higher during festive gatherings hence it is important to strengthen the habit of hand hygiene.

After the meeting was over I went towards the wards. Staff everywhere were busy in their work. I stopped at a few places and showed the staff the correct handwashing technique. At some places there were posters on which it was written – “Clean hands, safe life.” The attendants of the patients were also explained to wash their hands after the visit or before touching the patient. Sometimes small steps become big safety.
After some time I went to the ICU, there some nurses were dressing the patients. I appreciated that she was working so carefully. A nurse smiled and said – “Sir now everyone cares you have taught me so much.” It's good to hear that our hard work is paying off. The message of infection control is now becoming a habit throughout the hospital.
When it was lunch time in the afternoon all the staff gathered together in the canteen. There was a festive atmosphere so some had brought sweets from home some had brought snacks. We sat and ate together. The conversation continued in a light manner. Someone said, “Sir, this time on Diwali even the hospital looks like home.” Heart became happy after hearing this. Perhaps this is the team spirit, when even the work place is filled with belonging.
After lunch, we rested for a while and then had a small infection control training in the afternoon. All the nursing staff and some doctors also came. I showed them slides and explained how even the smallest infection can spread and how a disciplined routine can prevent it. Some staff asked questions and we discussed together. The atmosphere was very positive. It seemed that everyone was fulfilling this responsibility considering it as their part of worship.
Towards evening the view of the hospital became even more colourful. The nursing staff and doctors together decided to make some rangoli today so that everyone could feel the festival. Everyone together chose a place near the ground floor. Some were bringing blue color, some red, some flower petals. After some time, sounds of laughter started echoing there. Some nurses were coloring, some were decorating lamps. Doctors also came and started helping. Everyone together made a very beautiful rangoli. A lamp was placed in the middle and a message about infection control was written all around – “Clean hands, happy life.”
When the rangoli was completed, everyone took a photo. At that time there was a smile on everyone's faces. No one was tired even though the whole day was spent working. These are the moments when one realizes that even hard work becomes happiness, when it is done wholeheartedly.
When the duty ended at night, there was a slight coolness in the air outside. The lights of the hospital were on and the entire premises seemed bright with the glow of the lamps. I stopped for a moment and looked at the view. There was a lot of peace in my mind. Thought that celebrating festivals is not limited to just home, when we find happiness in our work, then it becomes a real celebration.
Yesterday was a beautiful combination of hard work, happiness and responsibility. On one hand there was the excitement of festivals and on the other hand there was awareness of infection control. Both of them together made the day special. I felt as if the entire hospital was glowing not only with lights but also with positive thoughts.
THANK YOU
