My Mandala Art : A Moment of Calm in Healthcare Life
Greetings of the day,
This is @alfazmalek from #India,
Hello friends,
Yesterday, on 9th April, World Psycho-Oncology Day was observed across the globe, and on this meaningful occasion, our hospital also organized a special activity to highlight the importance of emotional and psychological well-being in cancer care.
Psycho-oncology focuses on the mental and emotional challenges faced by patients during their cancer journey, reminding us that treatment is not only about physical healing but also about supporting the mind. To mark this day, a Mandala Art Activity was conducted in our hospital, and I had the opportunity to participate in it.
At first, the activity appeared to be a simple drawing exercise, but as the process progressed, I realized that it was much more than just art. It was a form of therapy that allowed the mind to slow down and focus. Mandala, a circular geometric design, represents balance, harmony, and inner peace. I began creating my mandala step by step, starting with a circular grid and gradually dividing it into sections using a ruler and compass. As I carefully drew each line and pattern, I noticed that my concentration improved and my thoughts became calmer. It felt like I had entered a peaceful state where all distractions disappeared.
As the design started to take shape, I experienced a sense of satisfaction and relaxation. Completing the mandala and adding colors to it gave me a feeling of accomplishment and inner calm. In our daily hospital routine, we are often busy with responsibilities and stress, and we rarely take time to pause and reflect. This activity provided me with an opportunity to reconnect with myself and experience mindfulness in a simple yet powerful way.
Many of my colleagues also participated in this activity, and the environment became very positive and peaceful. Everyone was focused on their own designs, yet there was a sense of connection and appreciation among all of us. Some created simple patterns, while others designed more detailed and complex mandalas, but each one was unique and meaningful. It also turned into a beautiful team experience where creativity and calmness came together.
This experience truly highlighted the importance of emotional care in healthcare. Cancer patients go through not only physical pain but also emotional stress, fear, and uncertainty. Activities like mandala art can help in reducing anxiety, improving focus, and creating a sense of inner stability. It is important to understand that healing is not limited to medical treatment alone. Supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of patients plays a significant role in their recovery journey.
During the activity, I also came across a quote that deeply resonated with me. It said that when we take a moment to reflect and care for our inner well-being, we feel more grounded. This simple thought carries a powerful message, especially in today’s fast-paced life. It reminds us that taking care of our mental health is just as important as taking care of our physical health.
Through this activity, I learned that healing is a combination of both mind and body. When we are mentally calm and emotionally balanced, we are better prepared to face challenges. I feel grateful to have been part of this initiative, as it gave me not only relaxation but also a meaningful learning experience.
World Psycho-Oncology Day serves as a reminder that true healthcare goes beyond treatment. It is about understanding the patient as a whole and supporting them in every possible way. Such initiatives are beneficial not only for patients but also for healthcare professionals, who work under constant pressure. I truly appreciate this experience and hope to see more such activities in the future that promote mindfulness, creativity, and emotional well-being.
THANK YOU
