Blue Pen Bird Drawing | Sharing My Creative Process

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and all is well. Today, I would like to share one of my recent pen drawings with you all. As artists, inspiration can come from almost anywhere, and for this artwork, I found inspiration in one of nature's most beautiful creatures—a small bird. Instead of using my usual pencil, today I decided to challenge myself by working entirely with a blue ballpoint pen. Pen drawings require patience and confidence because every stroke is permanent. This challenge was exactly what made the project exciting for me. Below are the steps I took in drawing this artwork.
Materials Used
• A4 paper
• blue ballpoint pen
My Drawing Process
Step 1
First I worked on the head; I carefully darkened the area around the eye and added the markings surrounding the face. As soon as these details appeared, the bird immediately began to show personality and life.
Step 2
Next was where the bird truly started to come alive. Using short, controlled pen strokes, I began adding feathers around the neck, wings, and body. Rather than drawing every feather individually, I focused on creating groups of feathers through texture and directional lines.
Step 3
After completing the feather details, I began working on the shading. I completed the tail of the bird using hatching and cross-hatching techniques, and then I added the legs and claws.
Step 4
Here I added a shaded area beneath the bird to create the impression that it was standing on a surface rather than floating on the page.
Step 5
With the main structure complete, I returned to refine smaller details such as the claws, tail feathers, and body contours. Finally, I strengthened a few darker areas to increase contrast and improve visual impact. Below is my final result.

My friend, congratulations! It's truly beautiful. Blue is my favorite color, so seeing it on a bird is even more stunning. Here in Venezuela, there's a bird with blue plumage. I enjoy its color in the mornings. We call it a tile. Your drawing looks a lot like the bluebird that lives in the tree across from my house. Creation is beautiful, declares the Glory of God.
