The diary game ||" freshars day and Farewell"
Friends, upon reading the title of this post, you might be wondering why the topics of a freshers' reception and a farewell have been mentioned in the same breath! Well, I am here to share with you exactly how we spent—and enjoyed—this particular occasion. In fact, we were midway through our studies—specifically in the third semester of our M.A. program—when the batch ahead of us graduated and departed. Simultaneously, a new cohort of students had arrived to begin their M.A. studies. Thus, this event was organized to serve a dual purpose: to bid farewell to our seniors and to extend a warm welcome to the newcomers.
Although we never truly wish to bid farewell to our seniors—for they hold a special place in our hearts and retain an enduring claim to this institution—we are nonetheless bound by protocol to observe certain formalities. Moreover, this event is organized to encourage the newcomers and to make room for them to step into their roles. Thus, with everyone's circumstances in mind, we collected a contribution of 150–200 Taka from each individual to fund this Freshers' Reception and Farewell Ceremony. Given the large number of students involved, and despite our reluctance to impose a financial burden on them, we ultimately collected a modest sum of 50–100 Taka from each person, ensuring that we could present our seniors with meaningful farewell gifts.
Anyway, we subsequently named our event "Uttoron." January 20th was selected as the date for the occasion, which commenced at 11:30 AM. The program began with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp as soon as all the faculty members—both professors and lecturers—from our department arrived. Subsequently, each faculty member was honored individually with a Uttoriyo (ceremonial scarf) and a small potted flowering plant. Additionally, they were presented with flowers and bottles of water.
Subsequently, two of our classmates hosted the event. The program commenced with a beautiful group musical performance. The entire room was adorned with multicolored balloons and colorful plastic ribbons. Furthermore, the venue was decorated with flowers, and the word "Uttoron" was crafted from thermocol and mounted on white paper, creating a visually striking display.
Next, the Sir and Madam delivered brief speeches. Afterward, one of our classmates recited a poem. The juniors performed songs, making the moment even more beautiful. I will share what happened next in the following post.
