The diary game||"Going to fetch saplings for World Environment Day"

June 5th marks the special occasion of World Environment Day. Cities are expanding by cutting down trees—nature's allies in maintaining ecological balance—resulting in congestion, concrete structures, and overcrowding that make urban environments polluted and unhealthy. This environment fosters various health issues and diseases among the population. While planting trees is crucial, few people in today's fast-paced world make the effort to do so; thus, the Bardhaman Forest Department organized this event to remind everyone of its importance, even going so far as to distribute saplings for free on their own initiative.

So, I went there with a friend. Since I currently live in a hostel, I needed to select plants that were practical for my situation; carrying a large number of plants back home—which is quite far away—was simply not feasible. Upon arrival, we saw the venue beautifully decorated with colorful balloons. The theme of their initiative was "One Tree, in Mother's Name"—drawing a parallel between trees and a mother. Indeed, trees are our friends, sources of life, and providers of the very air we breathe; comparing them to a mother is truly fitting.

Upon entering the Bardhaman Zoological Park, I had to sign a register and provide my name and phone number to collect some saplings. There were saplings of Jarul, Mahogany, Jackfruit, Jamun (Black Plum), and various flowering plants available; however, I chose not to take any saplings of large trees. My friend Arpita, on the other hand, picked one Jamun sapling and one Jarul sapling. We were asked to return on July 14th to collect fruit-bearing tree saplings.

There was also a display of various medicinal plants intended solely for public viewing. Driven by my deep love for plants and a desire to learn more, I began identifying each one. Impressed by my interest, they gifted me a Payesh Pata (or Polao Pata) plant—a variety whose leaves emit a sweet, pleasant aroma reminiscent of Payesh (rice pudding). Since it possesses medicinal properties and is versatile enough to be used in tea, coffee, Polao, Biryani, and Payesh, both my friend and I decided to take one. I really liked it and planted it immediately upon returning to the hostel; it is now growing vigorously and looks very healthy.

Finally, my friend and I took some photos with the plants; then, after visiting a nearby nursery, we returned to the hostel. We actually had to bring our own bags along to carry the plants. All in all, it was a lovely day.

I hope you will like my post very much. I will be back again with a new post later. Until then, everyone stay well. May God keep everyone healthy.
