For me, Plantain wins over yam
Buying plantain is easier than dealing with yam. I just bought four pieces of plantain for ₵40 and a tuber of yam for ₵40 in the market. The Plantain is out. I just know that right now we are in plantain season. A bunch of 5 big plantain is 60 cedis in Accra.
You go to the road, you see the yellow ones, and you know they will be sweet after frying. You’ll know plantain is out when you don’t find kelewele vendors, etor vendors, when the gobe sellers start selling fried yam or rice with beans and when the roasted plantain vendors focus on roasted yam and corn. Plantain just makes everything better. Plantain plus waakye, plantain and rice with stew or shito, jollof rice, fried rice, even plantain with spaghetti.
Have you tried plantain and indomie too. And the one I have tried this year is Plantain and chichinga. Yam is too much work. Those new Yams are always so terrible. We bought a set and that yam was so annoying. You literally can cook it with 1 liter of water to make it soft. I don't even know what they're using to plant yams anymore. They don't taste good these days. Sometimes you buy a big tuber and the inside is white but it tastes like nothing or it is even bitter. Their yam tastes weird. It tastes like you're eating eba without soup. That is the problem. With plantain, the sugar is inside.
Buying a particular bunch made me understand why they feel the need to add sugar and recently, onions to their yam when cooking it. I don't like peeling yam because my hands get itchy and the skin is so rough. I can never forget the time I sliced yam to prepare porridge yam. My whole body was itching me after that. I had struggling to finish it quickly. It was so bad that I even injured myself with the knife. You have to boil it for a long time. Fried plantain goes with everything. Best combo for fried plantain. Egg sauce, Pepper and onions sauce, Stew, Pap, Oat, Custard, Jollof rice and also I won't forget the Porridge. Even bread if the mood is there. Plantain and bread. I bought one for launch last Sunday, the vendor said it was from the Volta region. It was okay.
Yam stays in your stomach for too long. After you demolish that mountain of Eba or pounded Yam, don’t lie down immediately. Instead walk around so that the food gets pushed down and your blood sugar doesn't increase to the point where you feel sleepy after eating. It makes me sleepy during work hours which is not good for anybody. Plantain is light but it gives energy. I don't know why some prefer yam. Maybe they like the pounding. Boiling yam is just boring. I just want something fast.

🎉 Congratulations!
