Haji Camp Bazaar

Today, we set off to visit the Haji Camp fish market in Dhaka. Located right next to the Airport Railway Station, this market is also known by another name. All kinds of fresh fish like Rui, Shrimp, Boal, Puti, Pangas, Ilish, Magur, Bou Dulali, and many more are available here. However, since we went there at night, the amount of fresh fish seemed a bit less. Usually, if you come during the day, there is supposedly no room to even step, and fresh fish splash around everywhere. By the time we arrived, the dim lighting of the market and the loud shouting of buyers and sellers had created a different kind of atmosphere. You could tell from a distance that this is a very old and famous market. People with shopping bags were rushing towards the market, and there was a big traffic jam of rickshaws and CNGs. We also hurried a bit and stepped through the main gate of the market.

Time to enter the market

The market is quite huge. As soon as we stepped inside, we saw a collection of fish that was beyond imagination! It was just crowds and more crowds everywhere. Pushing through that crowd with great effort, we managed to get inside. First, some shrimps caught my eye, but unfortunately, they were not fresh. Moving a bit further, my mind finally calmed down when I saw some Magur fish. I thought about buying some, but the moment I heard the price, my desire to buy just vanished! Not only were the fish kept on ice for a long time, but the price they were asking was sky-high. It was difficult to even talk to the seller while standing in the middle of such a massive crowd. Different buyers were offering different prices, and the sellers were not ready to back down either. They were acting as if the fish had just been caught from the river. All in all, even though the inside of the market was buzzing, it became quite exhausting for us. The excitement I felt at first seeing such big fish slowly faded away due to the ridiculous prices.
