How are you going on friends?? Hope all of my dear steemian friends are very well by the mercy of Almighty Krishna and so am I. Today I have come here in this nice community to discuss on "bad effects of sugar". Sugar or added sugar is a common ingredient of our diet. There is no one but loves sweet foods. Though sugary foods are delicious, those are not good for our health. I think we all should be aware of consuming sugar-added foods. So I have decided to write on this topic today...

Health effects of excessive added sugar

Small amount of added sugar is ok. But consuming too much added sugar creates alarming signals for health. It triggers body to develop different types of diseases by altering body's signals in a negative way. Excessive sugar is the root cause of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, acne, dental problems etc. Here I am giving a brief description of these health problems.

TYPE 2 DIABETES
Too much sugar intake creates chronic peak of blood glucose. Pancreas produces much more insulin to metabolize that excessive glucose or sugar in blood. Consistency of this abnormal system triggers cells to be resistance to insulin and thus cells cannot properly intake glucose from blood leading to diabetes.

OBESITY

Sugar is tagged as high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, fruit juice concentrate on different food levels. Proceeded foods with added sugar contains high calories but low nutrition. Body converts this excessive sugar to fat that is accumulated by liver. Thus sugar causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

ORAL HEALTH PROBLEM

Consuming excessive sugary foods damages enamel and causes tooth decay and gum problems. Sugar consuming bacteria in the mouth cause cavities and tooth decay by producing enamel-eroding acids.

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
Added sugar increase the level of bad cholesterol and decrease good cholesterol. It also increase triglycerides that is a blood fat connected to heart disease. High sugar also raise blood pressure; putting extra stress on heart.


HOW TO SWEETEN FOODS WITHOUT ADDED SUGAR??

Honey, maple syrup, sugarcane juice, dates, raisin etc. can be alternative to added sugar. We can make desserts and sweet snakes using these natural sweeteners. Stevia and monk fruit extract are both good sweeteners and calorie-free. We should not feed our children the foods with added sugar. These natural sweeteners are a good alternative instead.
