"One Picture And One Story Week #26"

I has been a week since we reached in our house in the countryside. We have come in our house to spend month of Ramadan. My father has gone on his business trip, so here i am with my mother and younger brother who is 8 years old (i am 11).
My grandparent's house is adjacent to our house, our had been closed for years, because we don't live here.

My grandparents asked us to live with them but my mother politely declined their offer and preferred to open and clean our own house.

It would be great to bring life to this house. My mother needed house help to clean it and we got one from my grand mother's reference.

House help came with her daughter of my age, they very looking same as any indigenous countrysiders would look, who never go to the school and city in their entire life.

Our house was very messy, it needed thorough cleaning.

Both of these mother and daughter were more active in talking (about people and incidents of village) than their actual task of cleaning the house.

Days passed gradually and our house became bearable to live. The only place that needed cleaning was a kind of store room where they used to keep logs. Now it was dark and deserted, it looks scary to peek in. All those horror movie's scenes started to wander in my mind, i prefered not to go there.

I heard a shallow voice of our house help saying, a jin used to live there, i have heard it before you got married baji g(sister), to my mother.
Jin lives in the dark and messy places which are abandoned for long time.

My mother ignored it.

Next day only her daughter came for cleaning, i was around her seeing her busy in work. On seeing me she smiled and started talking to me.

She said the same strange thing her mother told my mother yesterday. She told me that there lives someone in that room.

Some says it's a jin. Some has seen a Noori makhlook (pious old creature) there. Other says, they are Bonay/dwarfs who live there and also roam in the house.

Oh my God, Dwarfs of Snow white? I asked her excitedly.

She said: What snow white G? Oh, which falls in Murree G....?

I controlled my laugh and said never mind, tell me more about them.

Before she could continue she frowned on the sight of green leaves on ground behind me. Bibi G, i have just cleaned it why are you plucking tree leaves and messing around? She asked me.

I looked on the ground with confusion and said i didn't break them.

Then who did? She said, was it a jin breaking them?

And that was the moment we both looked at each other with shock. We looked again at the tree, its leaves were falling on the ground as if someone is plucking them.

We both shrieked and told my mother about it. She went to the tree and saw it for herself.

She started reciting ayat ul kursi and told us to do the same. We followed her. After a while it stopped, the falling leaves stopped.

The helper girl turned towards my mother and told her about the jin tales in this house. You should consult a Peer sahab to do excorcism (to call out jin in order to expel them) as soon as possible. As you have to live here now.
My mother knows one and he can do...

My mother interjected: we don't need any peer sahab to sort out this matter. We have the power of Word of Allah, we will do Quran recitation more often now. It's just that easy.

But Baji G, you don't know these jins are very wicked and bad. Once they possessed a very pretty girl of our village. He wouldn't leave her body at any cost. Then her parents consulted our peer sahab and he made that jin leave her body.

He did some jhar phoonk/excorcism on her and her screams made everybody shiver, whoever heared about it. Touba Touba.

These jins are that bad, you must get a protection charm for your family. Get talismans for sure, it's word of Allah encased inside it, incase you doubt it, our peer sahab told us.

Oh dear my mother said: we don't need any talisman to protect us from jins.

It's the action of people in the era of jahala before revolution of islam came. when people used to go in the protection of jin before staying at any dark place.

There is shifa in Quran, ayahs are to recite and act upon and not to hang around your neck. Likewise, there is shifa is Zam zam, would you drink it or hang its bottle around your neck?

We laughed, but she didn't know how to answer.

Every magic and evil happens by the will of Allah. Our duty is to recite Quran, keep our home and bodies clean.

Jins have no power on those having strong souls, they go after weak and depressed ones.

We did Quran recitation daily afterwards and then came Ramadan and it became a ritual to do more good deeds. We didn't face any evil incident in the house again.

But i noticed that helper girl stopped talking to us, kept doing her work, and would leave.

One day i asked her the reason, she didn't answer at first but i kept insisting her. And then she went on...

Wo Bibi G, i told everything we talked about another day to my mother. She said not to peek my nose in any matter of your house and those jins. She said peer sahab would be very angry if he knows about what Baji G said about him.

Never mind bibi g, our peer sahab is very pious man if he wouldn't intervene, these jins wouldn't leave this world to live in peacefully.

However, you are very educated people who don't believe in talks of poor people like us.

I was silent, i didn't say anything and watched her going her way.

Though i wanted to say:
Jins are not all bad, they live in a parallel world like us humans with free will to do good or bad things. There are also good and mighty among them who when listen to word of Allah, surrender to him and don't do shirk.

And i wanted to say it wasn't jin who made nuclear bombs, and dropped them in Hiroshima, Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, and Ukraine. Jins didn't kill and continue to kill innocent people. It was us, it is us, humans, why aren't we scared of our own evils.

And i wanted to say that Allah has more authority to be afraid of than his creatures be it Satan, jins, or humans.

I didn't say it, but someday I will say it.
