Weekly Contest - Best Diary Game | A Lab Day in School.

Just like most Wednesday, we had the course; SED 322 (Energy and Matter) but instead of our normal lectures we did something else.... let's find out.

Morning/Afternoon: In The Lab

Wednesday was another day of having morning lectures so I tried to wake up on time, had my morning devotion, took a bath and prepared for school. The lecture was not until 9:00am so I had good time to prepare having woken up as early as 6:35am.

By 8:00am, I was ready to step out. Staying in a school hostel where cooking is not allowed, we usually eat out or get provisions. Leaving by eight, I stopped to eat jollof rice of 600 naira (1.4749 Steems) at a particular spot I usually patronize after which I left for class.

Few minutes past nine, the lecturer was in and class began. Instead of our normal lectures, we had a practical this time. The lecturer briefed us on the basis of the practicals, what to do and what not to do, he further grouped us into various groups and we began.

The practicals was on determining the specific heat capacity of a given solid using the mixture method. We were given the necessary apparatus and items; a weighing balance, pendulum bob (our given solid), calorimeter, thermometer, thread and water.

The practicals involved the following steps;

• Take the mass of the given solid three times and find the mean to improve consistency.

• Measure the mass of the empty calorimeter three times and find the mean.

• Fill the calorimeter up to two-third with water and the take the mass again, three times and find the mean.

• Find the mass of the water alone, from the above measurements.

• Put the calorimeter and water back to the jacket and insert the thermometer to measure the initial temperature of the water.

• Heat the solid up to the given temperature, put it back in the calorimeter, stir to attain thermal equilibrium and measure the final temperature of the mixture.

When we were done with the practicals, we got the needed value which would aid us in finding the specific heat capacity of the solid.
Though the practicals took a long while due the class size which consisted of two different units, it was a fun and impactful experience.

My morning and a most of the afternoon was spent in the lab. The whole lab session came to an end around 3:00pm.

Evening: Choir Practice

Leaving the lab, I headed for the hostel as I was very exhausted. I had took a bath, had lunch, and rested a while until it was 6:00pm, then I left for choir rehearsals.
In preparation for a forthcoming event, we practiced a new song; He is coming.

The rehearsals lasted for almost two hours. By few minutes past eight, we were done with all and dispersed to our various destinations. From there, I came back to the hostel where I took a my bath and slept off.

Wednesday, 15th May, 2024 wasn't a very busy. Though it was a little stressful, it was another good day in the life of a student.
