SLC27-W5 // Shaheen Sweets and Bakers
I hope you all are doing well. Today, I’m so excited to share my participation in The Good Food Route Contest (SLC27-W5) on Steemit. This week’s theme is Traditional Sweet Shop, and I decided to visit one of my favorite sweet shops near my home. I really hope you’ll enjoy reading my review and experience. So, let’s begin.
This sweet shop is located very close to my home, in a small local market between Street No. 4 and 5. It’s a small but very popular shop that has been here for almost 15 years.

The shop is run by a father and his son, who have been making and selling sweets together since the beginning. Their sweets are very famous in the area because they are always fresh, tasty, and made with good-quality ingredients.

At the front, there is a clear board with the shop’s name, and the seller is always busy attending to customers. The counter is slightly raised, so customers stand below and give their orders. Everything is prepared and served right there.
Inside the display, you can see a beautiful variety of sweets all freshly made and neatly arranged. They have Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, Khasta, Barfi, Dhooda, Bundiyan, Namak Paray, Patisa, and many more traditional Pakistani sweets.
The prices are reasonable because they make all the sweets themselves, which keeps the quality high and cost low.
Upstairs on the first floor, there’s a small kitchen area where they prepare all the sweets daily. You can smell the aroma of ghee and sugar syrup in the air a true sign of freshness. On one side, they also make fresh items like Jalebi, Samosa, and Pakoras, which they fry right in front of customers.
When I visited, the fragrance of fresh Jalebi and Pakoras filled the air it was so tempting. In one of my pictures, you can see the display full of fresh Patisa, a favorite sweet of mine. There were three types made from different flours like besan and maida each with its own unique taste.
I bought one round Patisa because I really love how it has many thin, flaky layers that melt in your mouth. Along with that, I also bought some Barfi, another classic sweet.
The total price of my purchase was Rs. 150, which is very reasonable. I paid Rs. 50 for Patisa and Rs. 100 for Barfi that equals around 6.25 Steem in total.
I brought both sweets home, served them nicely on a plate, and enjoyed them with my younger sister. They were so delicious fresh, sweet, and perfectly soft. I really enjoyed the taste.
The shop staff were very polite and cooperative. They handled every customer with respect and care. Even though the shop was busy, they stayed organized and kept everything clean. The shop was neat, hygienic, and there were no flies or dust anywhere. Everything was properly maintained, which I really appreciated.
| 🍬 Item (typical size/pack) | 💰 Price (PKR) | 💎 Approx. Equivalent (STEEM) |
|---|---|---|
| Barfi (1 kg) | ₨ 2,300 | ~ 95.8 STEEM |
| Patisa (1 kg) | ₨ 2,600 | ~ 108.3 STEEM |
| Rasgulla (1 kg) | ₨ 1,350 | ~ 56.3 STEEM |
| Gulab Jamun (1 kg) | ₨ 1,350 | ~ 56.3 STEEM |
| Jalebi (1 kg) | ₨ 350 | ~ 14.6 STEEM |
| Samosa (per piece) | ₨ 25 | ~ 1.04 STEEM |
| Pakora (1 kg) | ₨ 999 | ~ 41.6 STEEM |
| Dhoda / Dhooda (1 kg) | ₨ 2,200 | ~ 91.6 STEEM |
Now, talking about our traditional sweet of Pakistan, I believe Gulab Jamun truly represents our country’s sweet culture. Whenever we talk about “mithai,” Gulab Jamun is the first name that comes to everyone’s mind.
It’s made from flour and milk solids, dee fried, and then soaked in sugar syrup. It’s soft, juicy, and always present at celebrations weddings, Eid, results, or any happy event. It’s a symbol of sweetness and joy in our traditions.
From this shop, my favorite sweet is definitely Patisa, especially the round one. It has many thin layers, a crunchy texture, and is topped with dry fruits. The taste is rich, buttery, and melts in the mouth. I think it’s also one of the most loved sweets by their customers.
And now, for the foreign sweet I wish to try it’s Baklava from Turkey. I’ve seen it many times in Turkish dramas and on YouTube, especially from my favorite Turkish YouTuber, Turkan Atay. Baklava looks so tempting made with thin pastry layers filled with nuts and covered in honey syrup. It reminds me a little of our Patisa because of its layers, but it looks more crunchy and buttery. I really wish to taste it someday because it always looks so delicious and rich in flavor.
So this was my review and experience for this week’s contest. I really enjoyed visiting my favorite local sweet shop and sharing this story with you all. I hope you liked reading my post as much as I loved writing it.
