"Recipe of the Day, Week No. 128: Chicken Momos"
Assalamu Alaikum, friends! I begin by wishing everyone good health. Steaming hot momos paired with spicy tomato sauce are absolutely delicious. Wrapped in a delicate dough, they hold a magical blend of flavors within—truly a delight! The aroma of minced chicken and spices elevates the taste, while a side of spicy red chutney makes the mouth water; momos make for the perfect evening snack. Now that we’ve shared some sentiments about momos, let’s take a look at the recipe and the ingredients used.
| Red flour (whole wheat flour) | 2 cups | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Baking powder | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Minced chicken | 100 grams | ||
| Chili powder | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Turmeric powder | 1/2 teaspoon | ||
| Cumin powder | 1/2 teaspoon | ||
| Garam masala | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Chaat masala | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Ginger paste | 1/2 teaspoon | ||
| Garlic paste | 1/2 teaspoon | ||
| Cumin paste | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Soy sauce | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Chili sauce | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Tomato sauce | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Salt | 1 teaspoon | ||
| Oil | 1/2 teaspoon | Onion | 1/3 spoonful |
| Water | As required |
Preparation Method:
Step 1: First, gather all the ingredients and prepare the spices in the required quantities. Take the boneless chicken meat, clean it thoroughly, and then mince it using a knife.
Step 2: Add onion, ginger paste, garlic paste, cumin paste, cumin powder, turmeric powder, chili powder, chaat masala, garam masala, salt, soy sauce, chili sauce, and tomato sauce to the minced meat, and mix everything thoroughly by hand to marinate. Then, place it in the refrigerator to allow the spices to blend well and the flavors to infuse properly.
Step 3: In a bowl, combine 2 cups of red wheat flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt; mix well, then gradually add a small amount of water to form a dough and set it aside to rest.
Step 4: Knead the dough thoroughly again, roll it out thinly, and shape the momos by filling them with the marinated minced meat. Prepare all the momos in this manner.
Step 5: Set the water to heat up in the rice cooker. Once the water is hot, I place all the momos into the rice cooker to steam; I brush a little oil on the tray beforehand and steam them for 20 minutes to ensure the minced meat filling cooks thoroughly.
Step 6: After 20 minutes, I remove the lid; a wonderful aroma wafts out, and I can see that both the outer dough and the inner filling are perfectly cooked.
I serve the momos with sauce. They turned out incredibly delicious, and my whole family really enjoyed them. While momos are typically made with refined white flour (maida), I used red flour (whole wheat flour) today to create a unique flavor and a distinct color. Momos are a healthy choice for everyone. You can easily make these at home and treat your family to a tasty evening snack. That’s all for today; wishing everyone good health. Allah Hafiz ❤️
