Greetings everyone!

I’m Arsalan Khatri, and I hope you all are doing great.

Once again, I’m back with another delicious “Recipe of the Day” that’s sure to bring a burst of flavor to your dining table — the Traditional Fish Curry, also known as Fish ka Salan in South Asian cuisine.

Introduction

Fish Curry is a flavorful and aromatic dish made with tender pieces of fish simmered in a rich blend of spices, tomatoes, and onions. It’s one of those comforting recipes that perfectly combines the warmth of home-style cooking with the magic of desi flavors.

Whether you serve it with steamed rice, naan, or chapati, this curry promises a taste that’s both satisfying and memorable. The balance of spice, tang, and texture makes it a family favorite, especially during the cooler months or for special weekend meals.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Fish pieces 1 kilogram
Onion 1 medium
Tomatoes 2 medium
Garlic & Ginger paste 1 tablespoon
Cooking oil 1 cup
Salt To taste
Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
Ground coriander 1 teaspoon
Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
Ground cumin 1 teaspoon
Garam masala (ground) 1 teaspoon
Fresh coriander leaves For garnish
Green chilies For garnish

Cooking Method

Step 1: Heat oil in a cooking pot and fry the chopped onion until it turns golden brown.
Step 2: Add garlic and ginger paste, then sauté for a minute.
Step 3: Add chopped tomatoes and all the spices (salt, turmeric, coriander, cumin, red chili, and garam masala). Cook until the oil separates from the masala.
Step 4: Add a little water to the masala and gently place the fish pieces into the mixture.
Step 5: Cook on low flame until the fish is fully tender and cooked through.
Step 6: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and green chilies before serving.

Final Presentation

Health Benefits of Fish Curry

1. Excellent Source of Protein

Fish is rich in high-quality lean protein, which helps build and repair muscles, supports immune function, and provides lasting energy.

2. Good for Heart Health

Fish, especially oily varieties like mackerel, salmon, or sardines, are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) that reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), improve good cholesterol (HDL), and lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease.

3. Boosts Brain Function

Omega-3 fats and vitamin D in fish help improve memory and concentration, support mental health, and promote healthy brain development in children.

4. Rich in Vitamins and Minerals

Fish curry provides essential nutrients such as Vitamin D (for bone and immune health), Vitamin B12 (for nerve and red blood cell function), and minerals like iodine, selenium, and zinc that support thyroid and metabolism.

5. Anti-Inflammatory Properties

The spices used in fish curry—like turmeric, cumin, garlic, and ginger—have natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help fight infections and boost immunity.

6. Aids Digestion

Ingredients like ginger, garlic, and tamarind improve gut health, stimulate digestion, and prevent bloating and indigestion.

7. Weight-Friendly Meal

Fish curry is low in fat (when prepared with minimal oil) and high in protein, which helps you feel full for longer and supports weight management.

8. Strengthens Bones and Joints

The calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus in fish help maintain strong bones, while omega-3 fatty acids may reduce joint pain and stiffness in arthritis patients.

Assalamu Alaikum dear friends, I hope you are well and healthy. First of all, thank you very much for sharing the best recipe with us. The winter season is about to begin. Fish is eaten with great enthusiasm in the winter season and fish is prepared in the homes of the rich. Your curry looks very delicious. We do not prepare fish in our house. Fried fish is very delicious and the children also enjoy it. But curry also has a lot of power because this curry makes our body feel warm, which is what we want in winters, that our body remains warm. I hope that others will like your recipe. I will also try your recipe. Best wishes. 🤗
