Steemit Engagement Challenge S11-W1: "Talking about tastes for food 😋
Hello Everyone!
I hope you are doing well...
Food tastes offer a delightful topic for sharing our ideas on our most beloved dishes. I am thrilled to be partaking in this week's engagement challenge, organized by the #Steemit-ironchef community. Now, let's get into my insights on the following questions:
✔️ Tell us about your "Talking about food tastes" 😋
My taste in foods varies from time to time, depending on my mood. I find myself frequently craving sweet and spicy dishes. On cold, rainy days, nothing beats the comfort of a hot soup infused with the delightful aroma of lemongrass or ginger for me. During hot, sunny days, I love to have sweet treats and refreshing beverages. And alongside anything spicy to add a kick to my meals. As a person who loves exploring different tastes, I have recently developed a great fondness for Korean-style foods. My husband has been incredibly supportive, taking me to various restaurants in the city to satisfy my craving for Korean cuisine. He has even surprised me with a variety of rice noodles that I happily prepare at home by watching recipes on YouTube.
✔️ Mention up to 3 foods that your children or you did not like since they were little and talk a little about each one.
As a child, I was very picky and didn't like anything healthy. I always went for useless junk food. Looking back to my school days, I remember feeling angry with my mom for not bringing something fancy for me to eat, just like some of my friends had. I envied my friends' lunches with sausages and chicken nuggets. However, my mom never allowed me to eat processed foods like sausages; instead, she prepared nutritious lunches for me, filled with red rice, vegetables, fish, or chicken. Even now, she still hates seeing me eat unhealthy foods. The situation has become even more challenging since my husband also dislikes eating unhealthy food; he always strives to maintain a balanced and healthy diet.
As a child, I had quite a strong dislike of leafy salads, sweet potatoes, and most grains, except for Dhal. Whenever there was a plate of leafy salad (we called it "Kola Mallum") in front of me, I found it hard to enjoy my rice. I would try to eat it but ended up discreetly discarding it in the bin.
Steamed Sweet potatoes, even when served with grated coconut and spicy onion, chili, and lemon mixed sambol, didn't appeal to my taste buds at all. I couldn't understand why this combination didn't excite me at all.
Moreover, I developed a huge dislike for grains because the Sri Lankan style of preparation seemed to have no taste. I remember whenever I took grains like Green gram or cowpea to school for lunch, I found myself bringing them back home untouched.
✔️ Over the years, did you develop a taste for these foods or, on the contrary, do you still not like them?
However, as I have grown older. I have started liking leafy salads and different grains. Now I have started enjoying the taste and different textures of this food. I have started eating grains more frequently as I found newer ways of preparing them. And it's a perfect breakfast for busy days which I can make easily.
But I still try to avoid eating sweet potatoes. Sometimes my mom prepares it in different ways, hoping that I will enjoy eating it. I have grown to understand that all these foods offer a wealth of nutritional benefits. Now I tend to incorporate these foods into my day-to-day meal more frequently.
✔️ If they are healthy foods, would you force them to eat them or not? Why?
Yes, now I'm fully aware of how beneficial these food options are for my overall well-being. Rather than spending money on junk foods, I've come to realize that these nutritious options are truly worth it and offer an enormous amount of health benefits. I would force myself to eat them even if I'm not much comfortable with some tastes. Thinking about how healthy it is I will surely try to have it happily. Because, after all, health is more important than dwelling on one taste.
✔️ Tell us 1 food that you have always liked and why do you like it?
I love to have homemade Rice and Curry. Over time I have started enjoying traditional rice and curry. All spices and ingredients add a delightful taste and it has all vital vitamins to keep our body healthy. My mom's Rice and Curry preparations hold a special place in my heart. The homemade spices bring her food to the next level. The aroma of different spices makes the food more delightful and appetizing.
I enjoy them so much that I happily have this delightful meal for all three of my daily meals. Combinations like Jack Fruit curry, Spicy red fish curry, and a mixed herb salad with a dash of lemon juice, with red rice, create a wonderful and satisfying meal for me. I wish I had it now to taste.
Here I am concluding my participation with a big smile on my face, It was amazing to bring back old cherished memories. I would like to invite @dagonmaster @virajherath @nishadi89
Thank you for mentioning me. Nice piece of foodology with yummy dishes. Will try my best.
Thank you so much for visiting... hope to see you participation soon :)
Good to know that you have good taste for food now. During childhood, no child really care about the health benefits that comes with consuming some certain foods. Everyone always go for sweet or anything that attracts the eyes and especially the "useless junk" foods you just tagged above. 😂
Success in the contest!
Hi @adylinah
Yeah, you are right... I too think that's the reason. And also I think it's because everywhere we see promoting foods that have a bad impact on our health. So yes as you said when getting matured with time things go to head. :D
Thank you so much for visiting... have a great day!
Absolutely!
You are welcome friend!
It is good you now realize the benefits of those food you hate and how nutritious they are, curry spice is one of those spices that is very tasty in rice, it's colour and taste is superb.
Wishing you success in your contest entry
Hi @eliany
Yes the spices used in Sri Lankan Cusine is very different and that’s the one of the main ingredient which gives the color, aroma and a delightful taste.

Saludos amiga.
