Homeless people in my country

Are there homeless people in your country?

India is still a developing country. Although the country's economy is improving, poverty remains a serious problem. Poverty sufferers lack adequate food, proper clothing, medical services and hygienic living conditions. On the one hand, the rich are getting richer and the wealth of billionaires is skyrocketing. But the poor are still forced to move towards poverty.

So many people are homeless and the children of those who were already living in single rooms do not get that single room when they grow up. India is a country with a huge population so the shortage of job opportunities is very high here. Agriculture is dying because the government does not encourage agriculture. Rural people who depended on agriculture are moving towards cities for livelihood. Such people do not have a home and a certain percentage of them start staying on platforms.

Apart from this, people who are evicted or leave their homes due to mental or physical illness are homeless. They also make places like platforms, abandoned buildings, bridges, shopping streets as their shelters.

What do you think is the cause that leads these people to be on the street, homeless and without a family?

Homeless people have many reasons for their homelessness, the first being poverty. Our country has a large population and there are no suitable job opportunities here, there are many people who have studied here, but they are not doing jobs according to their studies, lakhs of engineers are graduating every year, out of which 50% are forced to go abroad and 50% domestically for other non-engineering jobs, the same is the case with other graduates.

Thus, when the more educated people get very ordinary jobs, the less educated people are unable to get even ordinary jobs and are left with no way to survive. They cannot afford a house when they cannot earn three meals a day.

Second, people with mental illness and physical illness become homeless when they are kicked out of their families, whereas mentally ill people become homeless when they leave home unknowingly and are not seen or found by family members.

Thirdly, when houses and incomes are affected by natural calamities, people become homeless, for example, due to earthquakes, tsunamis, and storms, the government does not provide any assistance to them to but or make home, but only provides them with temporary relief.

Has the government tried to try or create decent shelters to help these people?

Homeless shelters have been established by the government in India. But, in my opinion, it is not working properly. Because homeless mental patients or other patients do not go to these shelters on their own. Only NGOs are there to transport them. No staff is appointed by the government and if so appointed these homeless people are likely to go to shelters. Whereas in India the laws are not well taken up for this purpose and if one has to bring a homeless person into a shelter he faces many legal problems. So my opinion is the laws should be easy and motivating for those who come for such service.

What could you propose so that these people do not remain in this dark world?

When an individual leaves the family or home, the family members should come forward to investigate and solve his problem and if he is suffering from mental or physical illness, fellow family members should take efforts to recover him from the disease or put him in government shelters.

The government and NGOs should provide relief to the people affected by natural calamities till they come back again and everyone should have compulsory insurance for recovery from such natural calamities.

Government and corporate companies should create employment opportunities for educated people while others get regular jobs.

Saludos y bendiciones.

Greeting my friend,

Thank you for writing your thoughts on homelessness in India, It's really bad to hear that the government has established homeless shelters, but they are not effective due to various reasons such as lack of staff and legal issues. Thanks for writing your post.

Hello @jyoti-thelight hope your day is going well sad that so many people don't have proper homes. Poverty and not enough job opportunities are big reasons for this problem.

I agree that the government and NGOs need to do more to help homeless people, especially those who are sick.,thanks for sharing wish you success 💖🤗🌸💐.
