Rescue Diary - A new life for lucky Hermione

in Fur-friends9 months ago

Another weekend in the Southwest had us traveling up to Holbrook to help a lucky English Setter go from a high kill animal control in New Mexico to a saving rescue foster here in Arizona (her brother was also rescued and is waiting to head up to Utah in a few weeks to another foster so 2 lucky Setters saved from likely euthanasia).

This was a new rescue for us (Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue) but another of my old NM rescue friends had forwarded my contact info to the rescue coordinator and a few days later little Hermie was on her way west. -

Luckily my wife was able to be my co-pilot and we "only" had a 3 hour drove up to our usual meet spot in Holbrook at the busy Maverik gas stop where Hermione was happy to get out and stretch her puppy legs for a bit and get some love and hugs before we were on our way to Flagstaff.

I was stuck being the driver this time as my wife wanted to get all of the puppy attention and cuddles from Hermione on the trip. Usually I'm the one keeping our transport dogs company but Hermione was surely getting plenty of attention and affection from my wife and enjoying herself.

It's amazing how quickly these shelter dogs open up with new people. This poor little pup was so skinny and obviously just wanted to be loved and away from the cramped cage, noise and scary shelter environment. I've had times back in New Mexico when I would literally have to crawl into a shelter cage and carry out the scared and trembling dog only to have it curled up on the seat next to me knowing that it was safe now.
We fell in love with little Hermione on the drive to Flagstaff and my wife would have gladly fostered the sweetheart if we had had more room in our RV but she would soon be in her new foster home in Phoenix and ready for adoption after she gained weight and settled in to a normal life (even our Lulu was smitten with her and happily trotted around with her before she was off to Phoenix.

Glad to see that she has adapted well in her new home and is getting along very well with her foster sister. Hopefully we get the chance to drive her again when it's time for her to go to an adopter family.

I thought that I would share some of my stories of my involvement with transporting/helping out rescue animals (mostly dogs). This is something that I have been doing for the past 7 years or so.
No pay or professionals - just a bunch of great volunteers working together to help the less fortunate animals.
💖Happy stories that I hope you all enjoy💖

Here are some rescue organizations that I have worked with and support. Please help out these great people and seek out some of the many other rescue organizations - they always need our help.

What an absolutely wonderful story. I hope to be in a financial position at some point in my life to be able to do this for dogs in kill shelters as well. You guys are literally life-savers.

I just wish I had the room to foster like before. Only have room for our adopted dog in our RV. Just check Facebook state rescue transport pages if you're interested. Any help is always appreciated.
